ITEM: Selling products door-to-door, person-to-person, online, from a brick and mortar site, is a good way to make a living if you have a good product, manufacturer will stand behind the product, and you do not have to recruit other people, or pay entry fees. Many of the first millionaires in the US (whites) sold stuff door-to-door, including insurance).
Because Mr. Iddrisu Abdulai did not bother to include the name(s), type of product(s), manufacturer(s), etc., we must tag his MLM proposal as a pyramid scheme, until further notice.
There is a bog one going on right now in Nigeria, with Russian origin.
About MLM businesses and Pyramid Schemes: "Many pyramid schemes attempt to present themselves as legitimate MLM businesses. Some sources say that all MLMs are essentially pyramid schemes, even if they are legal. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) states: "Steer clear of multilevel marketing plans that pay commissions for recruiting new distributors." (www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-level_marketing)
The US Better Business Bureau (AZ):
Opportunity or Scam? Multi-Level Marketing vs. Pyramid Schemes (March 02, 2015)
As the convenience of working from home, having your own schedule, and being your own boss becomes more attractive, so do the opportunities to work for a multi-level marketing company. However, not all opportunities are created equal and some might even be scams or pyramid schemes. To help consumers make wise decisions when it comes to work-from-home opportunities, Better Business Bureau (BBB) offers tips for understanding the difference between multi-level marketing and pyramid schemes.
What is Multi-Level Marketing (MLM)?
Also known as network marketing, MLM is a system of retailing in which consumer products are sold by independent salespeople (distributors). Earnings in MLM are based on effort and ability to sell consumer products supplied to the distributor by the company. A MLM company will also encourage distributors to build their own sales force by recruiting, motivating, supplying and training others to sell products, earning a percentage of the sales from the sales force.
Red Flags of a Questionable MLM Opportunity:
1. Promises of high earnings, especially with little effort, time or serious commitment.
2. Requirement to purchase a large amount of inventory to start, with no written guarantee that unsold products will be bought back for a certain percentage of the original price.
3. Request for payment in cash, via wire transfer, or money order for initial investment.
What are Pyramid Schemes?
Pyramid schemes concentrate mainly on making quick profits earned by selling the right to recruit others. Pyramid schemes focus more on recruiting other participants than selling the product or service, making little to no mention about the market for the item. Pyramid scheme participants try to recoup their investment in products by recruiting potential investors.
Red Flags of a Pyramid Scheme:
1. Promises to make thousands or even millions of dollars with little effort.
2. Long anecdotes of how many people have made a fortune with the company without providing concrete facts.
3. Large start-up costs and substantial hidden fees to become a distributor.
4. Revenue is generated from selling the opportunity not the product.
Checklist Before Investing in a Job Opportunity:
1. Obtain and verify all company information, including name, address, phone number, website, and principals.
2. Find out start-up costs and the expected return on investment.
3. Review all marketing material and sales plans.
4 Verify earnings of other independent distributors that have worked for or are currently employed by the company.
5. Clarify contract cancellation and product buy-back policies.
6. Start with trust by researching any company at bbb.org.
Victims of pyramid schemes are encouraged to submit a formal complaint with BBB at bbb.org/complaints, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office at azag.gov, and the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov. (Sorry - this note may not apply if you are based in Ghana).
Again, we do not believe for a minute that that MLM is "the solution to unemployment in Ghana".
It can't be!
It has never happened anywhere in the world.

Prof I appreciate your concerns. They are genuine ones. But the fact still remains that MLM is the solution. You can start with little and get to plenty. Pyramid schemes are the ones that operate like DKM. You put your money in and sit down then you get so much interest at the end of a short period. In the NetWORK business, you work and make the money. That is why it is Network, not netsleep. I personally know a pharmacist who closed down her pharmacy shop in opera square in Accra to do MLM because she was making more money in the MLM than the pharmacy shop. Again those people who endorse MLM such as Robert T. Kiyosaki, Donald Trump and Bill Clinton are not just any people. They are people of substance who would not endorse a pyramid scheme. So you need to do further research and get to join a genuine company and start making the money. But if you can send me a mail via aiddrisu67@yahoo.com, I will send you much detailed information so you can do your research and make an informed decision. Thank so much Prof.

However, the fact that you are putting Donald Trump and Bill Clinton in the same basket tells me there is something greatly fishy with your proposal.
Unlike mainstream American media, we will never believe anything Donald Trump says unless there is actual proof.
For Mr. Clinton, with respect to his foundation, he himself was on the cusps of accepting $650,000 from the DRC (Congo) for making a speech and taking "one photograph each with the leaders of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Congo...". That is, until some folks on his foundation told him if that information came out into the public domain, people will begin to think he was a sorry excuse for a world leader.
READ: "...Congo, one of the poorest nations on Earth, offered former President Bill Clinton a speaking fee of $650,000--a sum equal to annual per-capita income of 2,813 Congolese. Indeed, the International Monetary Fund ranks the Democratic Republic of the Congo dead last in its global income rankings. What did it expect in return for its investment?...".
Sure, that is all networking, right?
Who, what exactly is the former "pharmacist" selling?

I have had some experience of MLMs and realising the hype is not an easy task. Just ask the women involved in Mary K or Avon MLMs.
In case, it is all promoting buying/selling - consumerism - if Ghanaians started peddling foreign products. What is needed is boosting the productive sectors in Ghana to absorb the unemployed, not MLMs.

Ghana's unemployment is culturally driven and until we put an end to it we can pump all the monies currently flowing through the global economy into Ghana and we will remain mostly unemployed at the end of the day. Germany's economy continued to be stable during the period of global economic downturn and why?
Can one point to anyone in Ghana with advanced university or college degree that produces anything besides manage from the office? Every Ghanaian with a Masters degree and Godforbid a doctorate degree wants a cushy office job. Even university lecturers do not want their hands dirty. Yet the German culture is accepting and embrace technical education that produces blue collar workforce in welding, fabrication, carpentry, masonry and a host of professional skills; we look down upon those people in Ghana. In the USA high school are programs that include workshop where students can go into automotive repair, cooking etc in Ghana we choose theories above practical/handsome application or approach. Most Ghanaians with advanced degrees are not in industry or industrial arts and engineering we take them in business, accounting etc and yet there's less than 5 percent of those MBA graduates who have business startups. They want a government or someone to create jobs and hiRe them to manage. We earn degrees in Ghana so we can be called educated even if we cannot design and produce toothpicks. It's our cheapened education priorities brought on by inadequate cultural direction stupid. It is culturally acceptable now to be vulgar, vile and accept rap over traditional Ghana highlife or than to be a plumber, carpenter, mason etc. When did we come to understand that development starts with building roads, bridges, homes and industrialized complexes all of which are the handiwork of plumbers, carpenters, welders, masonry, fabricators, tile workers, tailoring etc. These things do not come from a PhD holder. So let us see how our intelligentsia class survive without the very blue collar workers we hold in disdain

But we cannot run away from the reasons universities were created in the first place. One does not need a university degree to be able to fabricate a wooden table. Even a high school diploma would be an overkill for such a task.
There are complexities in life, and centers of higher learning -- like universities -- were created to prepare individuals for those intellectually-demanding aspects of our being.
Thus, it might not require even elementary school education to fabricate a SINGLE toothpick. All one would need is perhaps a sharp chisel or wood knife. BUT to produce 100,000 toothpicks, polished, rounded, sanitized, and packed in 10,000 plastic bags arranged in hundreds of small boxes, one would definitely need university-level knowledge and skills, including automation -- a discipline in itself-- involving computer science, advanced robotics, semiconductor electronics, infrared optometry, and sensor technology.
Universities are created for solving COMPLEX problems. Which plants contain chemicals that can correct the shapes of sickled red-blood cells? What electronic devices can detect copper electric wires being stolen or snapped by falling trees? Which traffic systems can ease jams in Accra? Which aerial sensors can detect blocked water drains and alert engineers before flooding occurs in Accra? Which of our local foodstuffs contain nutrients (like potassium) against hypertension, and so on.
Also, theories ARE important. They are behind many of the things in life we cannot live without. The cellphone is a child of hundreds of theories. The touch-sensitive screen alone was borne out of material science and microelectronic theories. I can provide a long list of theories and principles that made the internet and World Wide Web possible.
What we do not want is the failure by our academics to transform theory into practice. When Einstein came up with the Photoelectric Effect, engineers did not simply gather in beer bars and TALKED about those equations. They got their hands dirty and created the television set from those boring formulas.
When universities teach students the Osmotic Theory, it is so that they can design and fabricate water filtration systems using reverse osmosis, allowing remote villagers to enjoy potable drinking water.
It takes the knowledge of certain theoretical principles in structural engineering to build multistory buildings that do not collapse, but one does not need even a high school diploma to lay bricks for such construction.
It is unfortunate our academics somehow have given theoretical knowledge such a bad name, but the fact remains that in today's complex computerized world, Ghana cannot afford to sidestep theoretical knowledge unless it wants to be stuck in the Stone Age.
