It's unfathomable how an individual who claims to be a king, who claims to have the welfare and well being of his subjects at heart, can unilaterally and unwisely impose such inhumane and uncivilized imposition on the good people of the Ashanti region.
Every true, caring, dedicated good leader acts solely on the best interest(s) of the people he is supposed to lead. What good reason on God's earth does the Asantehene have to ban funerals for two months? Does the ban bring any economic advantages to people? Of course the answer is a big fat NO!!. On the other hand this only imposes economic and other untold and unreasonable hardships on the people. Can the asantehene give us one sound reason for this stupid ban? Nana we live in the 21st century, not the stone age. If as the asntehene you want to leave a legacy after you're gone, please do something radical, logical and reasonable by scrapping all these stone age backward customs and traditions that don't bring any benefits in the lives of people. If you don't know, or don't care, your actions have adversely affected the economic activities of untold number of already struggling people. Of course you don't care. It's all about you. And that's a BIG SHAME. The Bible says: "Woe unto those who make unjust laws or rules."

Yaw Adjei,
We agree with your position.
This is the 21st Century!
Seem to us if that is going to be the case in a Unitary Ghana where citizens are the sovereign, all the cost to families, businesses, individuals, including inconveniences, ought to be sent to the Asantehene and to the Central Government that permit this archaic custom to disrupt peoples' lives.
As political principles go, the NPP government, with their champion of individualism and money-making ought to understand that this is taxation, confiscation of private property and other interest, without representation or due process.
Ban the ban on noise making, or compensate all those who suffer economic and other hardships.
There can't be any two ways about that!
Peace.

It is primitive for the Asantehene to embark on this monkey sanction to punish people in the Asante Kooase region, especially who are paying huge mortuary cost. What is so annoying is that this stupid ban does not cover the "Talibans" who has been bring and performing funerals since the ban was issued. Anyways, I blame my Coward Asante-Kooase half cousins who always chicken out when such foolish orders are issued. Yes it is only in Kumari Tafo where any idiot can slap a chief and go unpunished. Probably the Asantehene should consult Togbega Gabusu of Hohoe on how to do it when any Talibans disrespectful stretches his dirty hands on a chief. Togbega teach them a bitter lesson by exhuming their buried copse and heftily slammed it in their face. And now there is absolute peace in Hohoe. Way to go, baby. That is the true language Talibans undastand.

Isn't it surprising ? How many educated Ashantis have protested over this irrational decision ? I doff my hat to Yaw Adjei for his comment. If the former President J.A.Kuffuor and thousands of educated Ashantis cannot protest because they think they are still living in the 15th century, or believe that Kwaku Duah is GOD and cannot be criticised, then we have made the whole Ashanti tribe a laughing stock. It's a BIG shame.

It is your unproductive and cacophonous noise in the name of hawking and other subsistent commercial activity like the cheap and vile songs that have to banned.
Have you heard of noise pollution.
You believe our ancestors are foolish. With people like you the African will not survive the next 1,000 years.

It's interesting to see people discussing this issue in a civil way because it's happening in another region. People from other regions have consistently been insulting the Ga Traditional Council whenever there is the yearly ban and yet hypocritically obey the same rules in their hometowns. Anyway, this is a nice article with very good points raised by the writer.
