Can you invite Prof duopolistic booboocratic Trokosilistic Kwarteng for the beer soaking? Methinks it will be a good opportunity for Dr. Sakyi to have a round table discussion with Kwarteng as to how to effectively communicate with his readers. Btw, I would advise Prof Sakyi to distance himself from Kojo T for he is a moronand a hater. He is one of the reasons why the CPP is dead. He preaches Nkrumahism and practice Onaapo, just like Prof Kwarteng and Andy K.

Pathetically petty as usual. Do you have to badmouth people here simply because they don't subscribe to your political leanings? You don't have to comment if you have nothing to say. Don't talk because people are talking.

Nana, it's not enough to say it's a nice piece. The author and other readers would appreciate it much if you said exactly what is nice about it.

Nana, having lived under the leadership of all our past leaders, should have learned something. Yes, that is what I will say because Nana knows Nkrumah, the coup leaders of 1966, Busia, Acheampong, JJ, Liman, JJ, Kufuor, Mills and Mahama. That is a long hibernation on the political wilderness with a lot of experience in which Nana can use to be one of the best leaders. If he fails to utilize that then I think he will go down as the "most useless president ever in our political history".

1. Murtala was never president in Nigeria
2. Actually, Mandela and his family became extremely rich. At his death, he left property worth millions. Mandela's one term presidency was more a symbolic gesture than one a radical policy change that impacted much on the people. He had already done much of his life's work before becoming president at 75 - rather weak in body and, perhaps, mentally too. Akufo-Addo is only 3 years from that age and he looks weaker than Mandela at the same age.
3. Busia was asked to lead CCE BEFORE, he became PM. The centre was to prepare the people for a civilian government. Busia used the post to strategically position himself for the Second Republic elections. Busia even thought the NLC would just hand over power to him after the coup without any elections...
4. The Essential Commodities time was not during the Limann (note the correct spelling) regime. That was during the Acheampong regime. To remove the stigma attached to the term, "Essential Commodities" became "Logistics" without any improvement in the situation on the ground.
5. A better picture would've been painted for younger readers if you had separated Rawlings rule as a military dictator from his civilian time. There were some important differences.
6. Finally, your long essay doesn't even attempt to answer the question you set for yourself. You only put here a few well known facts about our previous leaders. Then you give us your idea of what a good leader is without linking it to any specifics of time, place or situation such that your definition almost becomes meaningless. For instance, you say a good leader is one who listens to the pleas of the people and takes expert advice. Really, really, really? Kwesi, I beg to differ. A good leader must make decisions/choices from conflicting issues and the rightness or otherwise of the choices he makes can often only be known AFTER the event. It is not just a matter of listening to the pleas of the people. The good leader must know which pleas to listen to and act on but even more important is for him to know the pleas he must not listen to. The same goes for what you term "expert advice". Not all expert advice is correct or appropriate at any given time. The good leader must know which advice to take and which to ignore. Often, it is a very lonely process for the leader when he must sit down alone and decide on a specific thing. If he has the vision, the talent and a huge doze of luck, he may hit it right most of the time.
If you had tried to problematize the issue, Kwesi, you would have seen that it is not as simple as your excessively long article is trying to make it.
