It was believe that women are very sensitive and most could lured with touch because gradually a man will start with a handshake then a hug and further lead to sexual intercourse. Also some dubious used voodoo to get women through handshake. Hence the rationale behind the handshake. That's why I could boldly say that religious beliefs are not sensible at all and do not lend themselves to rational explanation. Of course, they form what is called ecclesiastical knowledge, one of the 3 sources of knowledge in the world. One studies this under epistemology in Philosophy or in techniques of social research, or methodology.
In the light of discoveries by modern science, most of the claims by religions are plainly false, contradictory within and externally and plagiarism of ancient myths as in the case of Christianity and Islam.
Just google "virgin birth myths" and you'd be surprised at what you found, if you're unaware of such things prior to doing that.
It is because of the high level of ignorance and superstition in Ghana that I wrote on 21 Dec. 2012 as one of my Xmas wishes from Mahama before he was sworn in as President:

ive been told we Jehovah witness will let our children die before we give them blood. well let me tell you this, I love my children, and I will give them other alternative then to break Jehovah God law in ref to giving them blood.
