There has been widespread flooding across Barbados, and some of it very heavy in some areas. So far there have been no reports of casualties, though I have heard news reports of submerged cars and people having to be rescued from their homes and cars. Neighbouring islands are reporting similar flooding, with news of much damage in St. Vincent.
It is a very stark contrast to yesterday which was hot and sunny.
I'm not aware of my daughter being in any of the videos I have shown from either today or yesterday.
Barbados is a black-majority, black-dominant society, more affluent than black African countries and without the racism and discrimination of the USA. I would not live in any other place but Barbados or one of the other Caribbean islands. For those of us who are black, we are the luckiest of all people in the black diaspora. Even white Bajans consider themselves better off living here than in Europe or North America.
By weekend there will be no visible sign of these floods. Everything will be fixed and cleaned and life will continue as before. Anyone who suffered car or property damage will get it sorted out soon enough through the insurance companies.
