Most people in Ghana were brought up on insults both at school and in the home. Getting rid of it would be a monumental task, it will be akin to getting rid of prostitution. I agree though that something must be done to reduce it's prevalence in our society. The continued respect for an elder or a leader isn't a god given right that should be shoved down our throats, it has to be earned without let up. When you allow yourself to be compromised in any way, then reciprocally, your standing in society diminishes. This is where you open the door to insults and ridicule. Our current leader finds himself in that state due to all the perceived corruption allegations under his watch and his inability to quash them. Honestly, would you respect a corrupt person? Would you respect a leader who has children outside his marriage? Which of these two leaders has earned your respect and does not deserve your insults, Mahama or Kofi Annan? I rest my case.

This very much brings into light the issue of moral integrity on the part of social deviants hiding behind age, titles and status to do all the evil and bad things one can think of. Adults or elderly in Ghana have succeeded in creating a culture of fear and silence among the youth in the midst of bad habits like indiscipline, laziness, theft, cheating and extortion not worth emulating by the youth. The 'yes sir, master syndrome' is what is collapsing public institutions in Ghana under under the supervision of rogues and criminals who are also untouchable even when exposed per their same lofty standards. A good example is the Ghana Health Service where the incompetent, confused and irresponsible Director General Dr. Ebenezer Appiah Denkyira decided to sack a colleague junior doctor by falsifying a mental illness on him. You clearly cannot respect such a person who can use his position to concoct lies against a junior colleague and persecute him on the bases of a false claim clearly on grounds of nepotism, cronyism, ethnic prejudice and partisan politics against the civil service code as a high public official. Unfortunately these are the types of elite rogues held in high esteem by societies and churches because of their illicit pocket and profile wealth despite all the nefarious activities. This same Dr. Ebenezer Appiah Denkyira as the upper west regional director of health service connived to falsely implicated a nurse and sacked her because she resisted his illicit sexual overtures. Unfortunately, these are the sort of wayward characters occupying key positions under the Mahama Government. No wonder the Ghana Health is virtually a collapsed institution and pale shadow of itself under his watch. A measure of his crass incompetence, corrupt, mischievous thinking and irresponsibility was glaring at the PAC hearing where the Health Minister have to come to his aid many times to avoid embarrassment .I wonder how such a person would have earned such a position on merit when common language proficiency is a palpable defect.
