But the president should have no control over the security agencies in the performance of their duties. Many of the incidents sited in this article have nothing to do with Mahama. I don't see even how the UN speech quoted shows Mahama's disgust for democracy. He was even referring to an African condition rather than a Ghanaian one and there's nothing new in that position. Our democracy cannot work in the same way as UK or US one within a decade or two. There're teething problems which we must overcome. The speech gives hopes that these problems will be overcome.
As for the detention of Fadi, the president can order that he be released immediately! Perhaps that will convince the likes of Badu that Mahama's govt is not suppressing the people it is supposed to liberate from poverty and oppression.
But then, of course, what do you expect people like Badu, an NPP partisan and hack, to write about a party that he has a disgust for? If you want to read something really non-partisan avoid writers like Badu, Adofo, Bokor, sangapaare, Okoampa and some others.

So before the security agencies in Ghana or anywhere else in the world arrest anyone they consider has acted wrongly in the face of the law or other, they have to get consent of their head of state or government. If this is how they work then there will be anarchy. I believe the security agencies have the power to make arrests as and when they are convinced that a case has been Mede for such arrests. Democracy has responsibilities for citizens as well as offenders. It does not allow anyone the freedom to do what they like. That results in a state of anarchy.
