Folks, these two gentlemen are raising very important issues and we need to pay attention: fraudulent titles and degrees most of the lecturers parade around. Univ of professional studies needs to address the issues raised. The current NAB is a mess and I don't think they understand what is going on. Most of the lecturers now in our public univs are unqualified. This is reflected in the students that are churned out.... congrats for shinning light on this issue

It is very very easy to identify them. Lecturers in Ghanaian universities like those cheap pay for publication journals because the review process is very easy and simple. No wonder, Ghanaian universities are not making it in the world university rankings. AS Professors elsewhere are trying hard to publish in high impact factor journals like Academy of Management, WHO Bulletin, the Lancet, BMJ Quality and Safety, Academy of Management Review etc.for free, lecturers in Ghana are paying huge sums of money to publish in these so called predatory journals. Even me as a PhD student, I will never submit my work to such journals for publication. So Jack, its laziness coupled with finding an easy way to publish an article that has resulted in our professors and lecturers falling prey to these predatory journals. They need to work hard and stop always paying for publication. Even if they want open access publication, in which case they will have to pay, there are numerous authentic open access peer-reviewed journals with high impact factor they can choose from.

So I can not understand the fuse this two are making about the qualifications of others. For instance it is alleged by the U.S. and her allies that North Korea produce inferior human resources. But it is the so called North Korean inferior graduates that are giving the U.S. and her allies headache.

There are some of us following this issue diligently. We think Dotse and Tsikata should avoid the negative descriptives they use for the other side and let the reader decide. There's no need to call the press statement childish and ridiculous when all they have to do is to show how childish and ridiculous it is.
They should also try more and more to post the academic cvs of these guys and show us how the publications are not up to merit.
Many institutions are compromised in Ghana. Many professors of respectable standing in our society may not have produced what should really set them apart. Dotse and Tsikata should continue exposing these things. There are many papers with beautiful titles that are really not worth much. There are many PhD holders who are really worth nothing. They should be exposed with hard evidence.
Looks like the Ghanaians who publish in reputable journals are all living outside the country.

Now regarding the core issue at stake, I began by stating a long time ago that "unaccredited" is not the same as "fake". The two have not yet answered how they made the leap of faith from "unaccredited" to "fake" but they are insisting on that flawed peroration to make their conclusory arguments.
Once you begin from the faulty foundation that an unaccredited university is necessarily fake, you fall into the danger of continuing on a personal view about the quality of education the universities provide to reach a conclusion that these universities are indeed fake because they are unaccredited.
Now the brothers have taken the liberty to shift the posts of their research to include the quality of those person's research papers, the quality of their thesis, and even the validity of the accreditation the universities claim to have.
So an issue that began with the simple question of whether or not the universities from which these persons got their degrees are accredited has now transmuted into the quality of the education they received, the quality of accreditation these schools claim to have, and research papers written by those holding credentials from these institutions!
Now those Ghanaian agencies looking at the flawed arguments of these two scholars can clearly see how irrational their conclusions are, and have accordingly dismissed all of their claims.
Today, they are the aggrieved ones here, using inflammatory and disgusting language to describe these government agencies who see their research for what it is.
As far as I can see, they have conducted a bogus research and reached a bogus conclusion. For this reason, their research has properly ended up in a trash.
Their punishment is that they will continue to go in circles forever even as those who know better ridicule their mischievous findings.

Having read the whole report, I can attest that the authors of the report did not use fake in their work. The media houses that attempted to place interpretation on what they were reading must have provided that easy handle for readers, as is normally the case with our media. I am assuming that the name SAS is a faceless individual who could even be Joshua Alabi himself deceiving himself that this case is over. The truth, from my point of view, is that the credibility of those who have been mentioned is grossly undercut even if the authorities in Ghana dont act. Students, professors, and the world is reading these exchanges and administrators of higher institutions elsewhere are taking note.

I would not argue the small point of fake/unaccredited since the two brothers have failed to make the distinction even in this article and have thereby aligned themselves to the flawed proposition that "unaccredited" means "fake".
Just as they are wont to do, the brothers, in this article, make supervening claims using incendiary language to condemn all the agencies that do not toe their reasoning.
They want everybody to adopt their faulty logic. But I have advanced sufficient arguments here and elsewhere to show that these two scholars got it all wrong from the very beginning, and the system appears to accept my argument and to reject theirs. That is why they are so angry.
I personally believe that the two scholars have not discharged any burden as to why these other Ghanaians should lose their positions except to claim that the universities from which they received their credential are unaccredited. So what?
In any case, without belaboring the point, I will repeat that the two scholars are engaged in a Sisyphean task in which they will continue to engage throughout their lives. Nothing will happen to those they are trying to assail because the facts and the laws are against them.
BTW, my name is Samuel Adjei Sarfo.

And to continue with this whole issue of accreditation, please note that it is also a status in flux and therefore quite meaningless as to its effect on a person's credentials.
For example, a person may begin a school which is accredited. Somewhere along the way, the school may lose accreditation altogether. Or a person may begin a school that is not accredited; but somewhere along the way, the school will be accredited. Or a person's school may not be accredited throughout his or her entire course, but will become accredited after he or she completes his or her education. In these three scenarios, how do we compute the status of that person's certification?
The forgoing reasoning, coupled with what I have stated elsewhere, will inform us as to why this question of accreditation is altogether moot.
Many institutions and agencies have their own forms of evaluations outside of the academic qualifications to test competence.
To me, you can easily fault the quality of work of the individual and fire him for cause, instead of insisting on meaningless designations and asymmetrical perorations.
So far, nobody has imputed anywhere
that the persons being challenged are practically and academically incompetent.

SMC and her products seemed to have gained the most attention and the target of the discouse as the only listed at the time of the release of the paper. The other named institutions are already known to the public as per the listing with the NAB.
1. Get a panel of two doctorates students from public universities in Ghana, an SMC doctorate student and if possible and one student from the researchers university in the USA to discuss the logic of justification of the paper. This will "qualitatively" inform the Ghanaian on phenomenon and the quality of standards across the institution.
Also get the VC in waiting for UPSA; SMC; Doste & Tsikata and the Education Minister for a scholarly discuss on the SMC's accreditation issues & standards of education.
Finally, get two legal persons to debate issues raised, one for, and one against the motion. Dr. SAS to speak on his stance on the motion. We need one contender on the side of Dotse & Tsikata.

Please let's argue out the relevant points. You seem to be doing that but adding a few unnecessary things. SAS is an old name on ghanaweb and anyone who's been here a year knows SAS is not Alabi or Amartey.
SAS has been consistent with his argument that non-accreditation is not equivalent to fake or some argument to the effect that a person who attends an unaccredited institution need not be a dumb academic on account of that.
There's clearly some sense in his argument. But some of us don't think the matter should end there simply for the reason that we belong to a country where many people like to take short cuts and game the rest of us. That's why some of us are calling for attention to be shifted to the ACTUAL academic performances/achievements of the persons being fingered by the two researchers. SAS may call it a shifting of the posts but there's nothing wrong if the posts are shifted from the wrong end of the field to the right place.
Ghana now has like some 100 universities. Surely not all the functionaries in all these universities are really what they claim to be. We must have some minimum standards and the boards responsible for maintaining these standards must themselves be above board.
It does seem really suspicious that so many of the guys involved in this issue received their higher degrees from SMC. We used to have a tradition where we looked up to the best universities in the west - particularly in the UK and the US. If we shift attention elsewhere, it should be the best known universities in those countries too.
No university in Ghana is ranked among the top 1000 in the world. In Africa too, only Legon makes it to the top 20.

Indeed I am sad for UTAG. When I read their so-called investigation I could not even make anything out of it. I even told my colleagues in my university that if there is a way of withdrawing from that organisation I would readily do that because the executives have disgraced us all. As a university lecturer I found that piece of work from UTAG to be very patronising. If UTAG could come out with what they came up with, then its no wonder that Ghanaian universities are producing students who don't know anything.
I learnt the UPSA authorities prevented them from conducting a full-scale investigation. If that was the case then they should have told us exactly what went on there. By the way it the UPSA authorities who invited the Dr Agbanu-led executives to go there.
I am so sad indeed that the media are not taking this up. UPSA is perpetuating fraud in academia!

I am very surprised that in Ghana lecturers can use any means to get to the top. As someone who schooled outside the country, I have always found it difficult to accept that my colleagues here in Ghana can easily publish in predatory journals mostly run by Nigerians and Pakistanis and be recognised as such. Remember they predatory journals easily accept and publish your paper within a week or even less whilst a good journal takes a much longer time to have one's work reviewed.
The authorities in Ghana easily accept these papers whilst those of us who toil so much to have our papers published in renowned journals especially from the stables of Elsevier, Emerald, Sage, Cambridge Journals, etc are nor accorded our due.
