Being in the army doesn't mean you are indigene? Anybody can be in the army of every country since it's a risky job, the military doesn't know whether you are an indigene or a foreigner the only thing needed is loyalty hence most Ghanaian youth in the UK and America are in the army, some even join the army before they were documented so it didn't mean nothing. Read the article well and you will understand one of the governors went to see Togoland chiefs to cede to her majesty, then came the Germans to colonize that area. Do you know why we have Hausa in Ghana? are they Ghanaians ? No! but because they were good fighters and helped the British, they were stationed in Ghana permanently and because of their religion they were grouped in one place hence the Zongo. Ask your leaders how come the Plebiscite vote and why only you? It is an open secret that you voted to join Ghana, it was Ashanti imperialist who told you to vote to be part of Ghana and anyway! Ashanti didn't vote to be part of Ghana, that is something you should know.

I still can't think far .What did Eyadema and his ancestral Kotokoli-Badande 'Kingdom' did to these Trokosis that has put them in such a perpetual fear that going back to their roots has even become a taboo? Ghana is for Ghanaians. I see no reason why any group of people would abandon their ancestral homeland and forcefully try to become part of another jurisdiction even as they are being faced with strict opposition and protest, here and there, to pack and leave. By the way, who said Anthony Kola was a Trokosi? Can I also say that E.T. Mensah is an Asante of a Fantse? I still can't think far.
Those who think Trokosis are Ghanaians must be living in the foolishman's paradise. If that was true, why should some academicians from Trokosiland advocate for secession.

No wonder except for a few skirmishes against Yaa Asantewaa who was herself betrayed by an Ashanti chief, all other chiefs "peacefully surrendered our sovereignty". Fast forward & we now have a constitution that simultaneously guarantees the individual's right to own property & the operation of existing feudal customary laws!!! So we have the original settlers who actually invested in & developed the land versus the Colonial British-imposed "absentee traditional leader landlord!!! Lawyers & corrupt judges are having a field day on land litigation!!! Shalom to the Israeli ambassador but investors are smart and will not invest in Ghana's expensive, uncertain & risky legal land title ownership environment!!! So the massive food importation continues because our "independence political leadership are worse than the Colonial British"

Here is a constructed history of Ghana through the lenses of a colonist. For instance, the essayist intimated that the imposed British colonial dictatorship/administrator, Sir F.M. Hodgson, demanded that the Asantehene accepts the sovereignty of the British (1890s) and even surrender the Golden Stool. Does the Golden Stool belong to Queen Victoria or to Hodgson's mother or father? How about Queen Victoria surrendering her crown to the Asantehene? That would be fair exchange, would it?
This dictatorial request is posited as the colonist’s policy to ensure peace. This perverse logic is the equation of an armed robber who holds a gun to your head and demands that you hand over your family jewelry so that there would be peace. The request is a violent act; the action in pursuit of the demand has led to the needless deaths of many Ghanaians. Such has been our tragic history. How absurd could that be? Yet it made perfect sense to the British then. Apparently, it makes perfect sense to the British now. Such is the revision and whitewashing of Ghana's history.
This propagandist and jaundiced view of Ghana's past must not go unchallenged. First they wage war on our people and then they engage in a war of rhetoric long after their gangster and murderous grand- parent colonists have passed on.
Here in this narrative is a parade of colonist who are being claimed to have shaped the history of the Gold Coast. Such a list is lily white, snow washed, and sanitized so that no black face stains the narrative. Here we have a cartoon history. The author of this garbled narrative wants an audience to his manufactured story about my forebears. He imagines he’s speaking to people without a voice or memory.
As Ngugi has indicated, the historical consciousness of the black person is a manifestation of the dead finding a voice. The voice from the past of the African is resolute. From the narratives of Welheim Amo, Olladah Sancho, Cugoano, the Bannerman brothers, the Ahuman brothers, Joseph Casely Hayford, Alhajji Umar, Al-Salhawi of Kete krachi , Kobina Sekyi, Yaa Asantewa, Ms Dove, etc, we have a long list of brave men of women who have defined the Ghanaian reality and essence. As Achebe intimates, the colonist likes to talk since he images he’s talking to people who are deaf and dumb. As history shows, it becomes clear the colonist only hears echoes of his own voice. There is virtually no audience for such manufactured and cartoon history.
We have our own narrative; we have stories to tell and we have audiences for our own stories.

The "governors" did all that, and so what?
You've provided what is obviously a very sanitized version of "governorships" in the Gold Coast. It is clear to us you've presented what the colonialist wanted to present, and did present in the books you have seen and read.
Providence forbid this is what we teach in Ghanaian schools, as if, all of that, all those years, were merely benign.
How do you account for the deprivation?
The plunder of your country?
The continued plunder, even today?
What happened to all the elephants, for instance? Clearly, Ghanaians did not hunt them all down.
Just the other day, listening to radio a College radio station in the Washington DC, we learned actually that among the troops sent to fight Asantes by the the British were West Indian blacks, from Trinidad, Jamaica, etc.
So, can we be a bit balanced about these "objects" of history, even if those Africans who had direct experience with the events have long departed?
Greetings!

Nobody is saying Eweland doesn't belong to the Ewes. All we are saying is that Volta Region until the plebiscite was not part of the Gold Coast before the Partition of Togo between the British and the French. That is a historical fact which unlike our oral tradition is recorded in the history books. That neither goes to say there were no Ewes living in the Gold Coast begore the Partition.!!!!
And to those who think because a eoman Yaa Asantewaa led the war against ybe British thereby making all Ashanti mrn cowards should check the history books and they will find women like Joan of Arc, Boadecea who had similar feats. Dies that mske the men who fought under them cowards?
