My Friend If you don't have anything to say just keep your mouth shut, Prof. Ayeetey Is a great scholar no doubts about that. But remember that he is human and can err. Do you know the type of students being produced from Technical Universities in Germany? We have sabotaged the Polytechnics for far too long, all because of people's greed and ignorance. Do you know that polytechnics in USA, Germany, etc produces graduates up to PhD level? Are you saying those countries are not sensible to have empowered their polytechnics to churn out such graduates? Ghana is in this deplorable state because the Technical Education is been crippled by people who should know better. Even Albert Einstein attended Zurich Polytechnic. What makes him think institutions like Takoradi Polytechnic, Accra Polytechnic, Kumasi Polytechnic etc can't produce Degree holders but UPS, UMat, UHAS can produce degree holders? Polytechnic conversion to university is long overdue just that policy makers were just not bold enough to implement it

Professor Aryeetey is definitely wrong on the issue of conversion of polytechnics to state universities. Mr. Mahama needs to be recommended for this bold move. The universities in Ghana teach largely theoretical matters with little practical skills for students explaining the large graduate unemployment pool. Students at the universities are not trained to acquire the critical mass of skills of both theory and practice necessary for accelerated development. The polytechnic state universities are clearly the answer. Over time say in about ten years, these polytechnic universities will fill the gap for which Aryeetey's standard universities have failed to fill.

I just think these gentlemen are a little ignorant or are playing mischief. With all their background it doesn't take much effort to realize that ,most top universities in the USA are technical institutions. Talk of MIT, Worcester polytechnic, Georgia Tech, Illinois institute of tech. Florida Tech. to mention a few. This is the mentality we as a people have had to deal with since independence. The few who have voice in the society have always thought of how they can stifle the growth of other areas in other to maintain their status in the community. Why did prof Aryeetey complain about the upgrading of colleges of education. In that case too one can say we have Cape coast university and uew. It is very hypocritical for one to argue on the lines of research and practical training. Ever since ug was established what beneficial research has come out of that institution ? They have all failed us for producing useless graduates who can not find use for their education. Anyone that argue on these lines is either corrupt, hypocrite, selfish, insensitive or a saboteur.

READ: "...KNUST, (LEGON, CAPE COAST, etc.)....for example, live(s) in darkness when power from Akosombo goes off? Even forgetting about dumsor, why should KNUST and the polytechnics, in the 21st century, have “Electricity Bills” as an expenditure item in their annual budget...."
WE SAY: Kwame Nkrumah's plan for KNUST, for Solar energy research is no secret!
The fundamental question is, do these institutions (AND THE GOVERNMENT) have a plan to reduce consumption of national power grid power by these "technology" universities, as they transition to alternative/Solar power?

Why didn't the learned professor make this view known two years back when he was seeking re-appointment? He is a hypocrite just like Prof Yankah. They were quiet when in position of power at UG in order to protect their job, when they are about leaving the scene or after they have left the scene, then they start to talk plenty.
Yankah did not advocate for Getfund support for private institutions while in office as ProVC of UG. But when he assumed post at Central, he has to advocate for that to satisfy his paymasters.
Both Yankah and Aryeetey are now advocating for 4yr SHS! Where were they when the debate was going 6 years ago? They now claim research has shown! Who conducted the research and when? And published in what journal?

Sorry. You have got thecolonial mindset! The mentality that learning Latin and Greek alone makes one a scholar is gone. Universities now have to justifty relevance of their research. So technical Universities do research and show us how it is to be applied. Legon has been a bastion of reaction. PROF. ARYEETEY represents the worst of the reactionaries. The legon mentality has retarded applied science for decades. Lets try the polyUnis.
