All the names you mentioned were Gold Coasters who had moved from one part of the colony to work in another part. These people didn't vote to be part of Ghana. In fact they were not even qualified to vote because they were already bona fide Gold Coasters. How can you vote to be part of a country which you already belong to???
It was the people from Ho upwards to the North which made up the colony of Trans Volta Togoland who were called upon to vote to decide if they would become part of Gold Coast. These people were not called Dzokotos, Amenuvors, Adadevors, Quists, etc. People with those names were from the coastal areas and they had been Gold Coasters from time immemorial!

1)Are they saying Brigadier Michel (an Ewe) was in another country's army whilst being commissioned and PROMOTED by the British as a Senior Military officer in the Gold Coast?
2) Sgt Adjetey, and Cpl Attipoe went to protest to the British Governor at the Osu castle and were shot DEAD.That was in 1948- long before Nkrumah and independence. So where the HELL did Cpl Attipoe come from?

Andy's comment is useful but it is equally vague. We are talking about the proposed independence of Western Togoland, and which part of the Volta Region is now forming the Western Togoland, and whether this was feasible. Andy's lenghty accout does not provide any reliable information on the subjet. We should get the appropriate Maps of Eweland/Western Togoland and Volta Region. The relation between Komla Agbeli Gbedema is quite accurate but it is not true that Ewes of South/Eastern Gold Coast Colony were deprised from voting during the UN Plebliste in 1956. As a part of the GCC they were not eligible to take part in the voting. Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Antor, Goka and Gbedemah infuenced these people to vote to join the Republic of Ghana because France( fighting with Algeians for freedom ) would never grant independence to the French Togoland, a message well received and executed by the Ewes of TVT. Ewes want to remain with Ghana for Peace, Progress and Prosperity.

Antor was the leader of the Togoland Congress that campaigned effectively for a No vote among the Ewes but not in the northern parts of TVT.
The Ewes voted No overwhelmingly. Ho, Kpandu, Hohoe all voted No. Only a few Ewes voted Yes.
The map of TVT stretched from a bit below Ho all the way to the border with Upper Volta as it was then called. Kpeve, Tsito, Peki were all part of the Gold Coast all the way to the coast including Keta Anloga Aflao... All these places were Gold Coast and they never voted in the plebiscite.

The 1956 Plebiscite only asked the voters if they would want to be part of Gold Coast. They voted either Yes or No.
There was no provision for whether they would join French Togo or become an independent party. Those questions were not covered. The Trusteeship Council was to decide what would happen to the territory in the event of a No vote. They probably didn't know what would happen with a no vote and never made any provisions for that.
But as you said, the vote was a messy affair. Hohoe and Kpandu voted overwhelmingly No. The other areas voted Yes. The total produced a narrow Yes and TVT officially became part of the Gold Coast in December 1956 in time for intependence in 1957.
The Kpandu and Hohoe people cried foul claiming they had evidence the vote was rigged. They accused the colonial government of allowing Nkrumah (with Gbedema in tow) for campaigning in the area when both were not citizens of the area and the issue did not concern them.
They raised funds to send delegates to fight the issue in trusteeship council in New York. But they lacked sufficient funds and the heft to successfully make a change. They came back to lick their wounds. Some are still licking those wounds.
The members of this group may be descendants of the leaders who fought against the plebiscite. The plebiscite happened 60 years ago. Those who voted then who are alive now must be in their 80s if the voting age was 21. Some of the group members were not born then or were not old enough to vote.
One must have very strong reasons to drag old histories to effect changes in a new age. The question is if there are enough reasons for the group's threat. And if they have enough support from the rest of the people they claim to be fighting for. I think the answer to both questions is No. You don't want to quit a country because somebody is insulting you. You stay to fight the insulters. VR is not the most neglected region in Ghana. Even if you feel neglected, you stay and fight that - not quit.
The group should first try to seek support from the people. Without that, they have no case.

But I tell, you if they succeed, they will become the most poorest country in the world. What does Volta region have? What resources are they proud of? Does the region give us minerals, timber or cocoa? Let them separate, and they will understand their stupid move when they fail to live independently. Catalonias are extremely rich and contribute maximally to the financial strength of Spain, so when they get disentangled from Spain, they will even do better. If Voltarians are learning from the Catalonians, they better stop that and wise up, because I don't want them to go into extinction. If all the regions in Ghana are to be declared as independent countries, I tell you that Volta region will be among the few that will go into extinction.

The level of ignorance about our human geography is astounding! I bet many people from the VR also don't know that the VR was a major producer of cocoa and still produces a significant lot.
The human capital is simply superlative. Reported 70% of all health personnel come from the VR. Then add the teachers, civil servants, artisans such as masons, carpenters, mechanics, etc. In advanced countries, they contribute most to the GDP.
VR is now officially the lead producer of rice and livestock though not significantly as during the Gold Coast era, when poultry alone outnumber the population, according to colonial records.
I still I should re-post mt article on how some Ewes became a part of present Ghana to educate those who never read it, and they seem to be a lot.

The only thing sections of TVT complained of was that the vote was rigged. But they couldn't overturn the decision. That was 60 years ago. They cannot now go back and call for a recount of the ballot papers. It's too late.
What they can do is to call for a new vote. But first they must make sure that the people affected want a new vote and such a vote is constitutional. This they will find difficult to do because they do not represent all the people of the erstwhile TVT which stretches from Ho to parts of the Upper-East Region. It's a huge area encompassing parts (but not all) of each of three regions - parts of VR, Northern Region and Upper East.

Honestly, this is not an issue to play with, as the writer has nicely put it. But there is always a missing link to this issues. The volta region is made up of many tribes streching from the south to the north. What majority of Ghanaians do not know is the fact that, the Ewes or Anlos were not part of that plesbicite. Infact, these people were already part of the land for many centuries. If that were not so, who were there when the Danish built Fort Prezentia in Keta around 1674 there about? Not too sure about the year though. The ignorant of certain tribes and their hatred for some particular ethnic groups and their continue liars about the volta region in general, has made even those who called themselves educated people to believe this hogwash from these bigots. The southern part of the volta region was there long time and became part of the then Gold Coast, now Ghana, before those of the people, who are now shouting horses and claiming ownership of mother as Ghana,as their bonafide properties. I wish the original CY-ANDY would come out to inform those ignorant illiterates about this, since he is well vested in this. But like the writer has said, this is not the time to venture into such adventure. To majority of Ewes or Anlos, nobody can tell them that they are not part of mother Ghana, or they are not Ghanaian. Such a person might be suffering from mental illness. They were part and parcel of this land for many centuries here before. Who says these people have no case? Even if after many years, the people of the Catalan region of Spain are fighting to leave the rest of Spain, how much more? The bigotry must stop.Ghana belong to everybody. If people could become citizens of this country by birth, how much more.

These people who are agitating for separatism will not tell you the real reason but the reason is what I have said. The group said that "aliens compliance order" under Progress Party targeted them. This is false and there is no truth in it. Busia, our Prime Minister came out with that order just to clean the nation of foreigners who are at that time trying to take over the nation. If any ewe tells you that that order was against them, let that fool know that he does not understand what is going on in Ghana.

Just put your point across without the usual ranting of a loser. People who cannot stand the truth always resort to stupidity like bring the war on. War for what? You want to get out Ghana and who should fight for that nonsense? A sage once said that "the air we breathe taste good" and why should a die to let a centipede leave? Apuu. Ewes are everywhere yet they always cry foul against other tribes.
There is an Anloga Town in the heart of Kumasi the Ashanti Region which full of ewes and is there any enclave in Ho for Ashantis? Go to Kumasi and ask your people if they are being haunted just because they are ewes. Ewes cannot stand the truth that they are full of hate against other tribes. They wish the destiny of Ghana be put squarely in their hands for them to tell every Ghanaian how, what, when, which, where etc anything short of that is not acceptable to them but that will never happen in Ghana and some of us wish them a faster leave just to breath some uninterrupted fresh air.

Massa, your assertions are wrong, Its mostly the other way round where some Akans feel uncomfortable when a NON Akan is seen at the helm of affairs as attested to by the comments of Osafo Marfo. How many of you Ewes live in Volta region or wants to live in Volta region? The question is why are most of you running away from your own region which you claimed is so wonderful and properous,? Because it is one of the most poorest regions in Ghana. Let's not even talk about the juju nonsense that has kept your people in poverty for so long. I know Volta region very well, as someone said on this platform if there is a referendum in Ghana today about Volta region leaving Ghana, majority of Ghanaians will vote for you to leave. We can't wait for that day to come. Ewes not all Volta region but Ewes ll go and form their country.

You pathetic ewe fools here are just showing your inferiority complexes again. Always talking about volta this, volta that. Nonsense! Volta region is Akan and it's the nature of the south volta region ''ewe'' clan to impose ownership unto themselves since these ewes by nature are greedy, selfish and wicked. You were like that before you came to meet the Akans who are the indigenes of volta region. No wonder most Ghanaians despise you. To think volta region is all about ewes is totally insane. You'll be shocked to find out that a large part of northern volta region will vote to kick you ewe aliens out since everything about you is unGhanaian and we know that. The fact that you fools settled there from togo doesn't mean you are the indigenes. Akans and northerners were there and you people aren't shit compared to mighty Akans, Ga's, Fantis and Northerners. No wonder you carry that herd-mentality and stick to yourselves like ants and sheep. Fools!

Akans are the original owners of volta region, yet because of their backwardness and hatred of the Akans they came to meet on the land they deceive themselves and their generations into thinking that volta region is only ewe. Nkwasiafuor Akans are the majority everywhere you go and that's it. Akans were and will always be the indigenous people of volta region. Kwasiafuor. The fact that a minority of you fools are somewhere in the south and close to Greater Accra doesn't make you indigenes of that region. Fools!
