I'm not here in any way attempting to defend President Mahama and his party in terms of the corruption allegations you're levelling against them, but the fact that you've completely closed your eyes on the same kind of faults blamed for former President Kufuor and his party's apparatchiks is so appalling. Your total exoneration of Akufo-Addo and describing him as 'incorruptible' is outrageous.
Dabbousi, what do you think your readers are? Do you think Ghanaians are stupid? Was Kufuor's name, or his family's name, also not mentioned in the Panama Papers? What about the numerous corruption allegations made against him during his presidency, how, for example, he single-handedly met with Vodafone executives in London, England, and sold GhanaTelecom to them for a pittance and accepted $US30 million bribe?
Was the NPP not accused of engaging in drug trafficking to the extent that it was even dubbed a 'Cocaine Party'? And indeed did Ghana not become a cocaine hub in the West African sub-region during the Kufuor administration? Was it not in 2003 that cocaine that had been seized from the ship Benjamin and deposited at the Ghana Police Headquarters in Accra mysteriously disappeared and some were later traced to the Asantehene's Manhyia Palace in Kumasi? Do you remember how Kufuor quickly promoted the Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood over and above all her seniors to her current position because she declared that the commission she had chaired to investigate the missing cocaine couldn't determine how the drug disappeared?
Now, how can you in good conscience totally exonerate Akufo-Addo of corruption when there are so many corruption allegations against him? He has so far failed to address them and only wishes Ghanaians to vote for him to become their Predisent. How preposterous!!
The following are some of the corruption allegations against Akufo-Addo and I'd like you to address them also and not only President Mahama and his NDC:
1. Like former President Kufuor, he claims to be a lawyer, but he has so far failed to tell Ghanaians where precisely he earned his law degree. We do know that he was kicked out of the University of Oxford and so returned home and entered the University of Ghana where he earned a mere 3rd class degree in economics. He said his law certificate is missing, but are there not legal ways of getting a replacement of his certificate if he did in fact earn it but lose the original?
2. As Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, he oversaw the de-confiscation of his cousin Raymond Amankwah, a noted cocaine baron's frozen assets. This Amankwah was arrested in Brazil for cocaine trafficking. By de-confiscating his frozen properties, Akufo-Addo enabled him to get away scot-free.
3. As Attorney-General, he in 2001 suddenly discontinued prosecuting one Frank Benneh for drug trafficking, a case that the then NDC's Deputy Attorney-General Mr. Martin Amidu had started prosecuting vigorously.
4. As Attorney-General, he failed willfully to prosecute three NPP Dzorwulu branch drug queens who had been arrested in February 2002 at the Kotoka International Airport for attempting to export cocaine outside the country. Not only did the case vanish into thin air, but their dockets also mysteriously disappeared.
5. Unlike any other NPP (or UP or Progress Party) leader or potential leader, Akufo-Addo alone has been accused of drug addiction. Why is it so?
6. As Minister of Foreign Affairs, he issued at least 12 diplomatic passports (which actually were alleged to be missing) to his cronies. In fact, one of those passports was found with a Ghanaian cocaine deader who was arrested in Singapore.
7. The GNPC drill ship saga also hangs around your neck. What happened to the rest of the money from the sale of the ship? Remember, the Auditor-General has cited him for causing financial loss to the state.
8. And, as indicated above, when the history of the Fourth Republic is written, it will be indicated that it was the Kufuor's NPP administration that turned Ghana into a cocaine hub in the West African sub-region. This was when Akufo-Addo served, first, as Attorney-General & Minister of Justice and later as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
9. Indeed, as a parliamentarian, Akufo-Addo pushed hard for a law, dubbed "Amoateng Bill", to be promulgated to essentially permit Ghanaian drug offenders jailed in Thailand to be returned to Ghana to serve the rest of their terms.
