When you put pearls before pigs, they trample over them because they have no use for them. I have said often times that democracy has come too soon for our folks, and I am hoping we build strong institutions such as our courts of justice to provide the checks and balances to enable us to mature in our present democratic dispensation.
The corollary of all democracies hinges on three fundamental elements: law, order, and good government. Our laws are weak and ineffectual, there is no order in our democratic institutions, and our government is bad. Until we get these fundamental elements in place in this country where there is law, order, and good government, stupidity and buffoonery exhibited by Kennedy Agyepong and Koku Anyidoho at our democratic institutions, such as the Supreme Court and EC, will continue to hamper any progress we make in our fledgling democracy.
The behaviour of most Ghanaians toward our democratic institutions is the classic putting pearls before pigs. We don't understand the currency of strong democratic institutions, and because we do not understand them, we cast aspersion at them either through utmost stupidity or class ignorance.

By this response, am I not justified by saying pigs trample over pearls because they don't know what they are, and for that reason have no value for them?

I agree with with the premises of this article.Keep in mind that it took Western Europeans centuries to develop the current democratic institutions that Africans are trying to emulate. It's said that you have to learn how to walk first before you can run.It will take time for Ghanains if they do not destroy the country first.Finaly, democracy has always been a work in progress. It holds out a lot of promise to so many, but with a view to the current police/black relations in the US,it disappoints and marginalises so many as well.

Unless perhaps you don't understand the term work in progress, but work in progress refers to raw materials, labour, and overhead costs incurred for products that are at various stages of the production process. If you refer to our democracy as work in progress, then our efforts must mirror the three aforementioned ingredients, i.e., the raw materials, labour, and overhead costs without these specific ingredients, there is no work in progress. Likewise, without the three corollaries of democracy; law, order, and good government, Ghana has no chance of building a viable democracy.
Many Ghanaians have very simplistic view of everything. The western Europeans worked hard at perfecting their democracies. It did not come naturally as a child learning how to walk. Democracy is never a natural phenomenon, the three corollaries; law, order, and good government must be perfected consistently and systematically (brick by brick) before we can claim we are learning how to walk before we can run. For over 59 years since independence, our laws have never worked; there is no order, and our governments have been bad. So how are we learning how to walk before we can run.
The western Europeans did not have a blueprint as we have. It was a new concept, and they developed and nurtured it. Today through their sacrifice and hardwork, we Africans have the blueprint and we revel in it, because it has freed us from our authoritarian and primitive disposition. Today Africans can express themselves freely without fear of reprisal, and yet oblivious of the fact that there are checks and balances that place limitations on freedom of speech. There is no democracy where checks and balances do not exist, and if we are learning how to walk before we can run, then we must learn well how to walk, otherwise we will trip over many times and may not be able to run.
