Ernest, you're right...but what is the situation now? The allowance has been cancelled by NDC but it was sustained by NPP. Even at the time we did not have oil revenue.

I am surprised at you, Yaw. Is that how to develop a country? Providing social amenities that are unsustainable? What happened to the Dutch sponsorship of the School Feeding Program (SFP)? The white man did not build his country spoon feeding her citizens with your type of social amenities. They sacrificed and worked hard at building the needed infrastructure that guaranteed gradual and smooth improvement in the living conditions of their people. Do you know that Ghana could have been far better today if the NPP had done just half of what Mahama has done over the past 3 years in terms of roads, regional and district hospitals, schools at all levels and support for key areas in the private sector, not to mention the phenomenal improvement of the health of our people at the villages with the massive development of Chip Health Infrastructure at those levels. It is such myopic view of development and social improvements that has seen us stagnant as a country. I really thought you were that smart to understand contemporary development issues and the path to sustainable growth. Enough of the so-called social amenities, after all the NDC has improved and expanded them several folds. I am really disappointed in you!!!!

Obuamah, rather be disappointed in the massive misuse of our money and the borrowing binge the last 7 years.
Our development challenge is the NDC's poor leadership. No country has rather developed with massive misuse of state money in schemes recklessly designed to create, loot and share the people's money. Improving welfare and wellbeing is what development is about. Ghanaians have been sacrificing a lot but increasingly becoming poorer. With prudent management all the social services could be maintained.

The NPP under any other name is still NPP. It was NPP's parent group, UP/UGCC/Dumbo/matemeho who orchestrated the 1966 coup because Nkrumah was presumed to be taking us down the socialism/communism path. Today the very NPP that talks trash about their business friendly policies is talking about social programs. Should in case you lacked common knowledge on why social programs come about let me give you one; it comes about because of scammers masquerading as business entities who take from government, help write laws that favor their greed while it punishes employees and slavery get to be repackaged as free market economic model. So NPP having more social programs cannot be worthy of a party that claims to be business friendly. Businesses like to capitalize of commodities that are in demand by consumers so they can make loads of profit. Taking tax money to fund social programs is not an ideal plus for any business friendly government; it proves government failures. People should have jobs not wait on government hand-outs.
