Everyone is poor in Ghana not because it is what we prefer to be but because of a few important reasons. One, we choose to be blind in Ghana and those who have eyes to see through the fog are simply hypocrites. Second our presumed elite class know they have no work product worth the money they extract from the national coffers; they must hide their true take home pay from us all. How does it look to be a police officer collecting bribes left and right if the public knew of your true take home pay? How did it look back then when lecturers who have never produced research paper or work worth a dime wanted more money for teaching students from the same textbooks blindly year after year without practical applications and everyday explanations? How should society view members of parliament who wish and do compare themselves to counterpart in industrialized nations when they are not worth the imported China-made furniture they use in parliament? We almost always have something to hide because we did not earn what we gladly extract from society. Even those who pander in the streets harassing drivers do take home more than they deserve at the end of each day sometimes better than those do produce each day to add to the national productivity. Are those people supposed to tell their victims they are rich but choose to beg? Ironically we are poor at heart and it shows in every level in society.

How come we don't get exotic houses for Ghanaian movie? Or cars? The average Ghanaian is afraid to show his wealth. My Kwahu kinsmen are the worst. Miss Ohene's article is an eye opener. We need more research in this area. Sociologists in Ghana should take a critical look at this.
