Bantama, has historical importance in the history of the Asante people as it was the original location of the Palace of the Asantehene, until burnt down in 1874 & 1896, by the invading British Army, whose soldiers also looted priceless Gold Regalia which is now held in various Museums in Britain (and other countries).
The current Palace of the Asantehene was built by the British Colonial Administration to accommodate the return of Asantehene Agyeman Prempeh, from his forced exile in the Seychelles Islands. Therefore, I would like to see the Palace of the Asantehene returned to its original location of Bantama.
There is a general misconception that the Asantehene rules with absolute authority which is not correct. Only King Osei Tutu (1701-1717), and King Opoku Ware (1720-1750), have been able to rule with total power. Since the mid 18th Century, the 'Council of Elders' have ensured that the behaviour of the Asantehene is subject to checks and balances. For example, if the Asantehene commits an act that is not approved by the 'Council of Elders' he could be de-stooled and forced to abdicate. Please note that the current Asantehene is the 16th occupant of the sacred 'Golden Stool'. Out of the 16 occupants of the sacred 'Golden Stool', 4 Asantehene's have been de-stooled & forced to abdicate and another tragically died of sickness after ruling for less than 50 days. In other words the 'Council of Elders' have de-stooled and forced the abdication of 25% of the 16 occupants of the sacred 'Golden Stool'. This leads me to question the motivation of the writer of this article. What are you trying to achieve by writing this article on Ghanaweb?
Please bring your claims to the attention of the 'Council of Elders', if you are seriously concerned about the behaviour & conduct of the current King of Asante. Ghanaweb has large numbers of people who hate the Asante people and therefore, I cannot understand why such articles are written on this Social Media Website? Nothing will be achieved by posting this article on Ghanaweb. Another user of Ghanaweb has been making similar accusations about the Asantehene for sometime and nothing has changed. Therefore, please take your concerns & report them to the 'Council of Elders'.

I disagree with your assessment. The Asantehene may not be reading what's posted on ghanaweb, but I can assure you that he has people who are daily monitoring what's going on on social media to see what if, anything that's being said about him. In case you have forgotten, this is the 21st century; The age of technology and social media.
Bottom line, our so called leaders are corrupt, greedy, selfish and non-caring.
Taking his concerns to the Council of Elders won't make any difference. They 're all in his hip pocket. Besides, as I stated earlier, they all go on social media and know what's being shared on social media every day.If nothing has changed, it's because the Asantehene doesn't want anything to change.

Yaw, thanks for your comments & feedback. After all Ghanaweb is all about opinions & I have no problems with others having different views to mine. However, whether the Palace Staff view comments on Ghanaweb or not are they going to act on the accusations raised in this letter? Your argument would be more effective if you provided examples, where the Palace Staff of the Asantehene read critical comments similar to this open letter on Ghanaweb or other Social Media & acted on them. If you can provide even one example, where this has previously happened please share it with me?

What has the closeness of Akwasi Agyemang to Rawlings got to do with the selection of the Asantehene? Please make a valid point.

Most People thought Kumawu people were arrogant when we question this crooked person unfortunately occupying the Highest stool of Asanteman. He is destroying the Asaante State. First of all, he is not an overlord like some people who don't know Asante history claims. I would not advocate another person's demise but we must get rid of him the same way our forefathers got rid of bad kings for our rich heritage to survive.
