Lee Kuan Yew, was more brutal to his detractors than Nkrumah. He did not only jailed them without trial he made sure they were bankrupted as well. This is something that eludes the "Nkrumah Bashers" such as Kwabena Yeboah. That said, Lee Kuan Yew, did not have "Apartheid" looming on his doorstep. Most of the Asian countries such as Indonesia,Sri Lanka etc had achieved their independence when LKY came onto the scene. Nkrumah, had to help others to achieve their independence.
Lee Kuan Yew, had a one party state for 30 uninterrupted years. Nkrumah"s so-called one party state lasted from 1964-1966. In other words, less than 26 months. Yes, he jailed the "Isis" minded detractors and terrorists such as JB Traitor Danquah. Lee Kuan Yew, did far worse to the nation wreckers.
I will leave these quotes from Lee Kuan Yew for Kwabena Yeboah to peruse.
“Whoever governs Singapore must have that iron in him. Or give it up. This is not a game of cards. This is your life and mine. I’ve spent a whole lifetime building this and as long as I’m in charge, nobody is going to knock it down.”
On Americans’ view of Singapore: “They don’t know where Singapore is, they are not interested. They think of only Michael Fay, then maybe caning, chewing gum… strange odd place this Singapore”.
“Amazingly, throughout most of the contemporary Western world leaders in government require no special training or qualification. Many get elected because they sound and look good on television. The results have been unhappy for their voters.”
“I always tried to be correct, not politically correct"
If Singapore is a nanny state, then I am proud to have fostered one.
“I have never been over concerned or obsessed with opinion polls or popularity polls. I think a leader who is, is a weak leader. Between being loved and being feared, I have always believed Machiavelli was right. If nobody is afraid of me, I’m meaningless.
“I have never been over concerned or obsessed with opinion polls or popularity polls. I think a leader who is, is a weak leader. Between being loved and being feared, I have always believed Machiavelli was right. If nobody is afraid of me, I’m meaningless.
“What are our priorities? First, the welfare, the survival of the people. Then, democratic norms and processes which from time to time we have to suspend.”
I make no apologies that the PAP is the Government and the Government is the PAP.
On justice:
"We have to lock up people, without trial, whether they are communists, whether they are language chauvinists, whether they are religious extremists. If you don't do that, the country would be in ruins."
As a rationalist, Nkrumah took up the offer when the "soviets" offered to train our doctors for a pittance. They did the same to Cuba. Now Cuba earns more money in exporting medical doctors around the globe in one year than all our cocoa and gold exports.
Kwabena Yeboah, should bear in mind that criticizing Lee Kuan Yew,even after his death in Singapore lands you in Jail. Enough of these Nkrumah Bashers!

We have been living in a one-party state governed by the PNDC/NDC Governments since 1981. Out of the last 35 years Ghana has been ruled by the PNDC/NDC for all but 8 years. There are currently concerns over the legitimacy of the Voters Register, the impartiality of the Electoral Commission and where each vote cast by the electorate will be voted fairly. Ghana is not a democracy and J.J. Rawlings has created a one party state.

Nkrumah's regime and time was short. Kwame Nkrumah's regime was from March, 1957 to February,1966, less than 9 years whiles Lee Kwan Yew ruled Singapore for 20 years. Though Kwan Yew government was an oppressive and supressive regime he got all the support he needed from the west, just like the Orphet Bougney regime in the Ivory Coast that introduced one party state with a vote in parliament before it was introduced by a referendum in Ghana.
During the time of Kwame Nkrumah there was the issue of racial segregation and apartheid that went negatively against African leaders with independent thought.
It is a fact that in 1966 the west gave financial assistance to the military junta in South Korea, the one party state in Singapore, the fascist regime of Mossuleni in Spain and the apartheid regime in South Africa than Ghana. It is on record that the west gave less financial assistance to the military regime of NLC and Busia's PP regimes because they saw them as bad economic managers.
The problems with Ghana and other African countries that overthrew and murdered their progressive leaders is that the military in those countries were of the view that they are western dolls who can only be animated by the west.
Another problem with our intellectuals is that they see mere noise making as democracy. Thus some Ghanaians in the U.S. were the communist and socialist parties are bared from both congress and senate assume that U.S. is the best democracy because of the noise that is made there about it.

"...It is on record that the west gave less financial assistance to the military regime of NLC and Busia's PP regimes because they saw them as bad economic managers..."
WE SAY: In the 1960, the West did not give a hoot if one was a bad economic manager, just as long as one was in their corner, "anti-communists", as you will agree.
With respect to Ankrah, the West/US did not give much because after he helped the west overthrow Nkrumah, the West did not need Ankrah "for nothing". In fact, the records show that the US deliberately withheld aid they had already promised Ghana, to "whet Ankrah's appetite".
And Busia was part of the Ankrah-Harlley gang that overthrew Nkrumah, under the Johnson CIA. Even before independence, Busia was visiting the US embassy in Accra collecting money, and asking for more money.
Greetings!

Unfortunately, I am constrained by contract obligations with my publisher and therefore cannot respond to this convoluted treatise put out here by a guy who styles himself as "Prof. Lungu".
The hallmark of all intellectual exposition is objectivity, without which there is no intellectual capital. This is what we see all the time on this website, which by the way is frequented by both intellectual and non intellectual. But the truth is, anyone who is highly infatuated with another human being and believes that human being is infallible is unintelligent and not worth the time of a meaningful discourse. Those smart people in the forum will do well enough to go back and read the what I wrote in response to his article, and those who have not done so are equally shamefully dishonest as this Lungu guy.
I just saw this article and it would be a waste of time to respond, because it will soon be roll over into the archives.

2. Please understand that even the Ghanaweb "Archive" is a record, unless it is a jig for you to perform for others.
3. You are telling us you are "...constrained by contract obligations with...publisher and therefore cannot respond...". That is just an excuse given what you've said already, and the last time.
4. We have refuted several of your claims on a number of items with information and data. To that point, if we may say so again, this essay is little about you.
5. Like many people who for decades have made minced meat of Kwame Nkrumah for political reasons, we are saying it is time to show up with your data on this Singapore track, being the intellectuals and thinkers that you all are.
6. Try as you may, the act of producing current GDP data for the two countries as your evidence is as anti-intellectual as they come. It does not make sense. It will not work.
Try harder, friend, if you care.
