We tend to forget mostly around election season that corruption is woven into the fabric of the Ghana culture. Ghana was not a corruption-free country when president Mahama got into office. Are critics angry or disappointed because it is presumed to have gotten worse? That is just damn too bad because for every leader we have had in Ghana there is not one who was not a thief or enabled others to steal. When people get into parliament or executive post as broke as church mice and walk out at the end of their time with homes, cars and other investment properties their official salaries could not acquire we will be too foolish or ignorant to presume corruption started with the Mahama administration. Open your damn eyes for a change and we are bound to see our own hands in the culture of corruption.

Corruption has become more serious since Mahama came to power. When politicians steal, they are not jailed but sent to the office of the presidency or fired to keep their loot. Almost all Mahama appointees and MPs drive V8 engine vehicles and they do not pay for fuel. In the USA, some congress people ride the train to work as Joe Biden did until he became V.Prez. Corruption is endemic in Ghana and Mahama is not doing much about it.

3. Kenyans are still driving on the wrong side of the road. Ghana managed to change that long ago. When will our twin brothers also change?
4. Ghana does far better at football than Kenyans but Kenyans are still good at cricket whereas that game is almost dead in Ghana. And Kenyans are world beaters in long distance running. Here, Ghanaians can't hold a torch to them...
5. The tech revolution is more advanced in Kenya than in Ghana. Ghana cannot even just copy the hugely successful m-pesa system in Kenya.
6. Election violence apart, Kenya has never had a single military coup. But Ghana...
7. And oh, the weather is nicer in Kenya than in Ghana but I guess the Ghanaians can't help that. It's nature's way...
Then there are more things that connect the two countries. I doubt if Ngugi Wathiongo's popularity in Ghana is touched by any equivalent popularity of a Ghanaian writer in Kenya. Which secondary student in Ghana hasn't read Ngugi? And in the 80s, didn't we all read Not Yet Uhuru? And Ghanaian writer Kofi Awoonor dies in a terrorist attack in Nairobi...
And at our independence celebrations, the Kenyan President became the President of Ghana...
