Any public figure who uses his position to favour his family or friends to win contract or any deal can face jail punishment.I specifically talking about Kofi Anan and John Kuffour whose children have been caught in the web of tax haven. We can easily trace the professional profile of their sons before their fathers were given top appointment and what advantage the sons got later. That will tell you that the sons were from nowhere and became rich through the positions their fathers occupied. This what we call abuse of influence.Thank you.

You used to be one of the fews Ghanaians I admired, but you're gradually losing credibility. This is not a question of whether you studied tax law or not. And who cares what you studied or what you could have become. The last time I read you said you could have become a judge etc. When the leader of country (who by the way is supposed to set a good example) hides money in a foreign account that's a sign of poor leadership. I hope you're not defending former President Kuffour and his family because they were engaged in other corrupt shady deals which dented their image. Can poor Ghanaians do what he did? Wouldn't you have gone to airwaves to agitate if it were President Mahama? When leaders don't lead by example Ghana fails. Thank God Akuffo Addo wouldn't do that and so far he's not been implicated in any corrupt activity. We need leaders like him. His patriotism reminds me of Nkrumah.

Of course, merely using a tax haven isn't a crime, but it could be a haven for criminal financial activities.
Yes, there is a difference between Tax Evasion and Tax Avoidance. Tax Evasion is basically when one fraudulently or illegally attempts to cheat the tax system by dodging paying tax. One is expected to face criminal prosecution if caught.
While Tax Avoidance is clearly the legal practice of arranging one's finances in order to pay the least amount of tax as possible. Most people find this scheme morally wrong.
A Tax Haven could be a haven for criminal financial activities where the structures facilitate money laundering, concealment of ill-gotten wealth and dodgy money.

If you are honest why then use a tax haven to conceal your finances? The majority of tax haven users turn out to be crooks laundering looted monies, proceeds from drugs and avoiding paying appropriate taxes.

First of all, let me say this about the pseudo Ghanaian intellectuals who claim to know, but in actual fact lack knowledge. These are the people who lead the national discourse in matters at the heart of the nation - and they are very dangerous and ill informed. It is like proverbial blind leading the blind.
This bozo calls himself a lawyer and therefore should be credited with the knowledge of Ghana's Constitution. Ghana's 1992 promulgated at the whims and caprices of JJ Rawlings, exempt the President of Ghana from paying taxes. Ghanaian Presidents according to the tenets of our Constitution do not pay taxes. JJ Rawlings, JA Kufuor, Prof. Mills, John Mahama have never paid a pesewa in taxes, because our Constitution exempt them. The question every Ghanaian with brains must ask is this: why should President Kufuor who is exempt from paying taxes hide money in a tax haven? There is absolutely no reason for Kufuor and his family to use a tax haven, and all indications are that it is a stolen money and they wanted to hide it.
As I have maintained over the years, JA Kufuor is the most corrupt and devious character to ever become President in Ghana. This man is a perennial thief par excellence. You can mark this on the wall, this is the tip of the iceberg concerning the thieving ways of this crook. Let us all wait until JA Kufuor's shit hit the fan, then Ghanaians will know the real criminal in suit and tie - John Agyekum Kufuor.

The Panama Papers has very little to do with Ghana. It has only unearthed a very serious problem with our politicians. The problem with African leaders is not the desire to evade taxes from their own incomes. The majority of these monies hidden in foreign banks are stolen money. They don't necessarily need Mr Fonseca to help them hide these monies in secret bank accounts overseas. So the Panama Papers is the least of our troubles. Until the Swiss, the Dubai, the Hong Kong and the Malaysian banks all come out with how much our leaders are hiding there!
