Are there not public universities and hospitals in the developed world. If the state does not involve itself in education and health and leaves them to private hands, could you imagine what would happen? Ask Otabil to tell you how much do undergraduate students on the average pay a year and compare with the public universities. He was simply crying for more students to his University so that he could get more money.

BTW, did they not have the benefit of Government established education? And now they are bloviating their nonsense. They want to mindlessly copy every thing from the west; what a foolishness!!

The problem with Mensa Otabil is the same ailment that afflicts every greedy bastard in the world and every self proclaimed conservative. Common sense may come to people later in life because of age but it should not always come to selfish people only after they've extracted much benefit out of systems they deplore when it's time for them to contribute to sustainability of those systems. Mensa Otabil and the lousy souls on the right have all used the free system to get where they are. Hell Mensa Otabil continues to extract from us all by not paying taxes on his mega church of dimwits. The government pays for roads and the communities where his congregation lives. Let the government stop sponsoring all government obligations and let us allow survival of the fittest to take shape. Why stop at schools and hospitals and not everything? Why must government promote businesses and not allow business to spent their own money to promote their lot on the global market? Ghanaians are captive audience and with limited options we do fall for foolishness in government, in tribe and in politics. Mensa Otabil is just the latest to run off at the mouth being induced by tribe and politics to give shameless speeches with his purchased university credentials.

Can Mr Baidoo explain to us why countries such as Sweden, Denmark,Norway, Finland,New Zealand etc are doing remarkably well on the global stage
when more than 80 percent of/their schools are funded by the state. Even students in private schools in Sweden get their funding from the state.Has Sweden gone bankrupt because of that? No.
Cecil Rhodes did not amass his wealth from his native Hertfordshire,he got it through the plundering and looting of African resources. Can the "Ignoble scholar" Baidoo, tell us how many Africans have benefited from Cecil Rhodes scholarship scheme since it was established in 1903?

There is nothing wrong in promoting the private sector. After all, that's what our local entrepreneurs have been doing since the time of Nana Kwamina Ansah. The problem with Otabil is to make such a categorical statement that "govt has no business in doing business".If that is the case, then why should we have govt at all?I am not interested in political ideology here but the reality proves Otabil wrong. He is mixing up Capitalism with anarchy. Can you imagine what will happen if govt is not interested in doing any business? This will be a total catastrophy.Mind you,Ghanaians are not rich enough to build huge factories and business is not only about schools.Socialist or Capitalist, you cannot stop the private from doing business nor you can do to .It is only the extremely greedy bastards who see everything wrong with govt in business.I do agree on principle that govt must create friendly environment for the private sector but it's illogical to make such reckless statement in public.Thank you.

The injustice in education is perpetuated by those who do it for profit. They take advantage of the poor issuing bogus certificates for exorbitant fees. The job market on the other hand is dominated by friends and friends of friends. At least some people want to level the playing field with initiatives like affirmation action. These are some of the things that only the Government can accomplish. The content of Education must be determined by parents. The Government has the responsibility of preserving individual rights to food, housing, clothing, freedom from harassment, etc.

We have our own banks we could use for our development yet we still go out and borrow monies from foreign banks for our developmental purposes.
These foreign banks earn the interests on these loans which our own banks should have been earning. If we don't patronise our banks we created, how do we expect to develop?
Am sure some of you will argue we don't have the dollars hence why we go outside for loans. My reply is, the dollar is not the currency of circulation in Ghana. Therefore, the borrowed dollars will still have to be converted to Ghana Cedi. I therefore ask, why could we not have borrowed the equivalent in Cedi from our own bank so that the profit (interest) from the loan will go to our own bank and this willk in turn be available for more developmental lending.
We've been brainwashed by religions. We have been brainwashed to believe the Caucasians and Arabs are better than us. This is the reason why they all look down on us. You go to their countries, they look down at you but they come here, we worship them because we worship Jesus and Mohammed!

Wow, what a warped article! I bet for every good private school in England or the USA you can get equally good and successful examples of state schools in China or Cuba etc. By the way, what is next? Why don't you simply say that government should have no hand in governance itself? Indeed what is the role of government supposed to be, if schools, health care facilities, roads and general infrastructure are all supposed to be run by private enterprise?
Come to think of it, has the government ever stopped a businessman who wants to tar a road and why do you think the government is trying to encourage public/private partnership in various spheres?
We are tired of people who always blame government for their failures. With so many NGOs, Think Tanks and Pressure Groups who do nothing but make noise,it is no wonder we are still a Third World country.
