Just what was on my mind when the president made that announcement. New Edubiase is overwhelmingly a bastion of agricultural activities - cocoa, cassava, plantain, palm oil, maize, oranges, coffee, pineapples, kola nuts, etc - and yet the place does not receive its fair share of national development funds........it generates more revenue for the national economy than it receives in development funds, and all that John Mahama thinks of them is they need a soccer stadium above all social determinants of sustainable development. That is what happens when you have a muumu as president. This is what happens when you have a monopolistic and patronage state whereby the central government intervenes and collects all revenue, as well as impose all district and municipal chief executives and regional ministers who are nothing more than party stooges.
In Ghana the central government operates a ponzi scheme which saps the economic blood of the local people and redistributes the money away from the people who generate them and gives away to those free-riders who think you owe them free lunch. Crony statist capitalism is what has rendered us the stunted growth that we see today. It has not fundamentally changed from the colonial economy whereby the colonialist exploited us to enrich a distant kingdom. In today's term, it is our own government that is trickling up our monies and resources from the local level to support a political mafia and unproductive bureaucracy which consume 70% of all revenue. Did we go or did we come? Will directly elected local and municipal government with the power to raise revenue prioritize a stadium over all the development challenges facing the people of New Edubiase? Cry the beloved country oh Lord.

I similarly warned Cape Coasters that the politicians will continue to deceive them with building a stadium. I warned them to stop the politics of sports stadium because that's not a priority for Cape Coast. How has the completed stadia at Cape Coast, Tamale and Sekondi helped the people?
The politician can't think of providing jobs, industries and real growth poles which will help the people.
The people will continue to be deceived by provision of Stadiums.
That's why Otabil tells us.. to strive for excellence... to stop mediocre thinking.. to cause a revolution in our thoughts. The politician will not do these things.
Great article
