If you write something for others to spend their valuable time in reading, then it is very important to give them something worthwhile by researching your article as much as you can. Owusu tries to do that.
This topic is a bit dated, though, and much has already been said about it. Owusu is a bit late with this piece. Interest is shifting away from the topic even though it is still important for us as Ghanaians.

Stephen Atta Owusu, we are sitting on time bomb, not from the Gitmo ex-detainees, but rather by being oblivious to the surreptitious invasion of the Fulani herdsmen to our forest areas - Agogo, Afram plains, Krobo farmlands, and parts of the Eastern Region. The gradual Fulani invasion of our lands, to me is more dangerous than the sojourn of the Gitmo ex-detainees in Ghana. Unless Stephen you are politicking in favor of NPP & not the whole nation.

Kenya, Somalia, Nigeria, France, Niger, UK, USA, Egypt, and the list goes on. These coutries did not have Gitmo 2 but witnessed attacks. Why is it that some people WISH that an attack occurs in Ghana? Is it worth the political capital? It is stupidity of the highest order. You and your family may be the first casualties if your wish comes to fruition. Good luck.

Enkosi daben and Ghanaians would come to the realization of the kind of a president we have? Mahama's insatiable quest for money is mind boggling to the extent he would not blink an eye selling Ghana for two dollars.

That's it! $10 million per escape detainee. How can Ghana be held responsible (if),and if no one in authority received nothing?
The truth'll come out one day.

I strongly disagree with Owusu on this issue; his piece is misleading and designed to instill fear; those two former Gitmo detainees are not capable of mounting heavy casualty attacks on our soil for the following simple reasons. They are under surveillance 24/7 by our security agencies aided by the vaunted security apparatus of the CIA; it is common knowledge that terrorism thrives in a chaotic, disorderly environment, where security is lax and accomplices/willing recruits to terrorism abundant. Ghana is not chaotic, let alone disorderly. The political environment is stable, an antidote to terrorism; terrorism rears its head among aggrieved segments of the population. Ghanaians may be aggrieved but they won't under any circumstances succumbed to the charms of terrorists.
It is striking obvious that the two detainees have essentially been defanged, their ability to do anything dangerous is minimal, zero.
And finally, Owusu missed one basic fact; of those former detainees who were resettled in third countries, only 5 percent have returned to terrorism and the recidivism occurred in countries where there is political chaos and mayhem. Let us get our facts straight and stop frightening poor Ghanaians. The issue of the two former detainees is now moot. Let's train our sights instead on the Ghanaian arms smugglers who are flooding our streets with guns and ammunition from overseas. These young men, death merchants, are the threat to our national security and not some poor ex detainees.

About 30 years ago when I was a medical student I read a very interesting book called: " Black Skin but White Heart, Soul and Mind". It is not only a question of shame but very far from being a question of shame only when an "African American" President to add insult to injury after doing almost nothing for the millions of people of Colour who are homeless, starving and doing nothing for African Americans who are butchered like limb in a slaugther instead of sending these dangerous terrorirists back to Yemen or any other Arab country he is using the weakness and corrupt Ghanian politicians and send them to Ghana jeopardizing the security of the peace loving people of Ghana. Rest assured the commerades of these dandgerous terrorists will retaliate by destroying, killing and maiming Ghanians.
I fully agree with the Author that these dangerous terrorists must have been either transfered to their country of origin of to any other Arab country including North Africa so called Megreb countries or they must have been transfered to a strict security prisons to the U.S.A.
Why must Sub- Saharan Africa be a burden bearer?? and jeopardize the stability of in this case Ghana. It is heart breaking to see how Ghanian politicians have become pot bellied corrupt stooges worse than Nigeria whom they first started aping ending up in one of the top corrupt country in the world. It is time for a popular uprising and Revolution with all the consequences it implies and start in earnest equal division of the countries wealth, start abolishing poverty and developed Ghana's agriculture, industrialization, develop Electric power stations and buildcommunication infrastructure in electric train and liberate the people from remaining as Hewers of Wood and drawers of water.
As far as the GTMO (= Gitmo) prisoners are concerned if it was up to me I would have demanded from the U.S to take them back and do whatever but if the U.S refuses then I would have claimed that the terrorists have broken jail and disappeared giving them AK 47 to go anywhere they want. Enough is Enough!!! It is enough to continue victimizing Sub- Saharan Africa.

CLARIFICATION TO MY PREVIOUS COMMENT:
When I wrote that "If the U.S refuses to take them back .....give them AK 47 and let them go wherever they want..." I meant outside Sub- Saharan Africa like to Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan. Those terrorists have all the possibility including to arrange fake passport that can pass easily even the U.S check points. The choice is up to them and that way Ghana will avoid future unexpected terrorist atacks.
I would also like to clarify my point when I wrote " Ghana needs a popular uprising and a revolution". Here I would like to quote the former People's Republic Of China's leader Deng Xiaoping who said, quote unquote: " It does not matter if a cat is black or white as long as it caches mice ( Rats: emphasis in bracket mine).
Allow me to make myself clear. If the people have been pacified and a popular uprising and a revolution is difficult or impossible then I want to remind the reader that the former military pilot and later the president of Ghana did not try his best in the beginning to change Ghana with the support of a popular uprising either but rather by
a military Coup d'état.
Den Xiaoping's wisdom is what Sub- Saharan Africa must adapt and lock them up and nationalize all the money they have stolen from Ghana's treasury chest of the corrupt leaders and elite of 0,8 - 1% of Ghana's population and empower the people taking strict measures against Corruption by amending the law and start developing Ghana in all those areas I mentioned earlier and lift all the people out of poverty by stoping the age old slavery or chattel slavery type of way of life of Hewers of wood and drawers of water.
I Thank you for your patience
