The case of Caseley Hayford is a typical case of the leopard can't change its spots.Right from the word go,he appeared to me like an apologist of the imperialist with a penchant for hard core capitalism. He showed his true colors with his unashamedly in support for the npp and his crazy criticism of anything socialist and the ndc even though the ndc is in bed with the npp ideologically.
Caseley is a funny guy and the record has it that either his father or relation was an engineer at Akosombo and kept away from its inauguration because he sinisterly thought there will be a coup that day.
The man is very steeped in Mate mehu politics.Fortunately the stature of Nkrumah is too big for pygmy like Hayford and therefore he should be ignored. He has no weight.

Is it not the duty of those who claim they know better than him to challenge and expose him, just as Prof Lungu has started? Your stance, and that of pple who say madmen who pick our pioto while we're in the bath house should be left alone, allows mediocrity and ignorance to reign supreme in Ghana. Those who know better keep mute! Prof Lungu and some of us have rejected deadpan apathetic attitude of the so-called educated Ghanaian!

I didn't read Casely Hayford's article however I have a Firm belief that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was a traitor. He was appointed by noble and wise men of UGCC. I don't think he was even a member of the UGCC. He sabotaged and betrayed the UGCC using the varanda boys. He side lined all the able men to carry out his selfish UNION OF AFRICA hoping to become its president.
All the good things about him were what he wrote indeed he preached virtues but acted vices.

Kofi Jesus did not say tooth for tooth..
The history of human civilization had it that man at a point in time hunt with sharpen stick. When man found the properties of iron he made spears from iron with which he use to fish. John the Baptist was a man of the old school of Juhddism which states eye for eye and tooth for tooth. But Jesus spoke and thought forgiveness and even love for your neighbour.
The history of national liberation movements is that you take your independence by force of arms as the U.S. did and Kwame Nkrumah did not take the independence of Ghana by force of arms, but through agitation so the hew and cry of those who hate him is always not heard.

Nkrumah never sabotage anyone: He made his intentions clear even before disassociating himself from the ugcc..
Those in the ugcc believed in "federalism" in other words they were waiting patiently for the whites to give them power in order to continue the same pattern the Brits followed.
Nkrumah having experienced and seen blacks side-lined from where he was called to join the ugcc, could not help allowing a fellow black man treat another black man as though a slave....
There came the idea of unitary government which Nkrumah did not fail to deliver....
So obviously, it is because of Nkrumah that a northerner and a voltarian can be happy claiming to be a Ghanaian...If not Ghana would have been worst than Nigeria(also federal system of governance)...
be wise indeed...
You can continue the rest...

1966 with 13 years old eyes.
On 23/2/1966 Kojo Addison came to the house in which we lived and as usual bought some agbelikaklo and akpeteshi and shared it with workers on the construction of the Mamobi Clinic. The area around the clinic was then busy up to Ben's School where I was a pupil then. When my sister whose husband was a soldier goes to the market and return it was always a celebration. To my 13 years old eyes those days were days of celebration. So it happen when my brother in-law get some military supplies.
My elder brother who completed Middle School Form 4 was laid off after the Job 600 was completed. A week after that he got appointment as a messenger at the Ministry of Information.
I was not buying anything at that time since I was young and a pupil so when people talk about the hardships of those days I pretend that I was blind those days.
Thus at the age of 60 plus I still ask my brothers and sisters how life in Ghana was before 24/2/1966. There responses were always that things were easy, there was job, marketing was interesting, there was abandon of food and most of all security.
Back to Accra New Town which I returned to soon after the coup and saw he whole house which use to be beam with life quite I realized that Col. Emmanuel Kotoka and others have brought darkness into our lives. Within a week half of the able employed youth in the house were out of employment, and some of them remain so up to their death.
It is a fact that when Busia became the Prime Minister in 1969 he no more found the Ghana Industrial Holding Corporation as a white elephant because then the British government was involved in business in all aspect of human endeavour. We wrote the other time that governments and states in Scandinavian countries are deep in business and even up to date provide water free of charge to their citizens. Education and healthcare are free for citizens in those countries, and in terms of education and health index they are far ahead of U.S.

It has always been our tactics blame blame...We are always like that; we have easily forgot that it was Nkrumah who said we must "..change our attitude..."
Am very very young and did not experience the days of Nkrumah, but growing up, I always hear "s3 Nkrumah wo eha 'nka" so i thought Nkrumah was a man who perhaps died recently not knowing he was our first president of yester-years...Mean while the very same people were in support of the coup... what an amazement...
Thank you for your honest account

Kwame,
Thanks for your own lived experiences account. I was not 13 by Feb 1966 but I was very much an politically exposed kid by then. I can therefore testify to the veracity of what you wrote. Yes, factories, farms, construction projects, etc. were indiscriminately closed down causing loss of jobs and 100s of millions of pounds already invested in them. There is a book out detailing how it happened and how even the Western diplomats tried to stop them from sending away the Eastern European engineers and technicians on the projects but it was too late.
Take for instance what happened in Anloga as a case study. As soon as the coup happened, the newly extended electricity with a generator to the town was cut off and the town remained in darkness again until the 1970s when it was linked to the Keta grid dependent on an old generator not big enough to supply properly even the areas previously dependent on it. So, by the 1990s, pple can have dumsor for up to 3 months until the dim so-called Third Phase from the Akosombo grid was extended to the area.
Then take the basic school at Avete. New blocks at lintel level was being built in order to abolish the morning/noon shift system introduced cos of the compulsory education policy. Building stopped same day the coup happened and the blocks were gradually removed layer by layer. Hmm! I have to confess the school headmistress, an auntie and leader of the CPP Women group, made us to carry the blocks to complete her own house!
