The first three paragraphs are not very inviting. The second starts with "[m]ore to the point" which is an admission by the writer that the point was not properly or adequately made in the preceding paragraph. Yet still, the third paragraph starts with "What we are, in effect, saying..." which also admits that the point was still not made after two paragraphs! It's up to the reader to decide if the point was eventually made in the third paragraph. The article picks up after that, though.
I see Kwarteng making an attempt to theorize or "problematize" an incidence involving the use of vulgar language in our political "discourse". It is an academic exercise that may be beyond the mental capacity of the average ghanaweb reader.
Many people have written on this topic but it is only Kwarteng who has attempted to draw a somewhat theoretical line bt the matter and the gutters to which our two-party political system has fallen into. He draws heavily on imagery involving the genitals to make his point.
True, Kwarteng can sound verbose and bombastic and repetitious (how many times was "endarkened gingivitis-mouth" used in this piece?) but it seems that is the only way he knows to write. I don't see any reason to insult him for that. And he does seem to be very well read...
