I don't think Blatter's support for Africa was always altruistic. It was a quid pro quo thing. He had a lot of opposition from Europe and courted the African vote to overcome his European opposition. The Swede, Lennard Johansson, didn't do the same with Africa. He was a far better administrator than Blatter and as Swede, would have been far less corrupt.
Anyway, Blatter's selfish motives helped Africa, so we can give him the benefit of the doubt.
Football administration has been too much dominated by Europe and South Africa. It is time it goes to someone from outside that region.
My concern is that there is no much democracy in football administration. Those who get the top post what to be there forever. Look at Havelange, Blatter, Issa Hayatou and Kwasi Nyantakyi. The post is prestigious and can make you rich.
I am afraid that if Salman gets there, he will be there for 30 years especially since he is a young man. I think there should be term limits or an understanding that people should be there for no more than 8 years.
But I am sure if Salman wins, the Europeans will find a way to knock him off in four years.
