Yes Christmas was celebrated long before Jesus was born, therefore one is right to argue that it is not a christian religious festivity. But each time people try to point out that Jesus was probably not born on 25th December or in December all together as evidence in favour of that argument, for me it doesn't make sense, as long ago christmas itself was not celebrated on 25th December or in December all together. So whatever date it is that Jesus was born on he could well have been born on christmas day
