"In all these, therefore, we are left with no option but to rebuke the managers of our aviation industry which over the years should have raised the level of the aforementioned airports to real international standards, modern ILS, et al".
Sifting responsibility from JJ Rawlings, JA Kufuor, Atta Mills, and John Mahama to managers of the aviation industry is irresponsible and fatuous to say the least. Various airports in the country are public good, and in any public good the responsibility rests on our governments to ensure there is adequate protection for the general public. It does not make economic sense for the private industry (local regional airlines) to invest in public good.
Democracy for the African is a curse, or perhaps an abomination. The primitive African government, more so the current and previous governments of this country, would only embark on vote catching projects; particularly roads, and ignore every other project that is not beholding to the eye. They want to point to their equally backward electorates or constituencies what they have achieved. How can any sophisticated African government not recognize that modernizing our regional airports, and providing the necessary state-of-the-art equipment to ensure their safety, is a necessity and part of the transportation system in the country. The irony is that there ministers and government officials who use the airport facilities on a daily basis, yet here we are commiserating on what is clearly the responsibility of our governments. Is government waiting for disaster to strike at our airports before committing funds to upgrade them? Ghana is a sad place to waste our lives.
