In as much as I find your piece interesting and thought provoking, your analysis seem to concentrate much on the urban areas, especially the aspect of possible rejection of local as medium of instruction language by some parents. The urban population however remain very low to be able to block such initiative if it takes national dimension. I am teacher, and having taught in different regions, I think the it is long overdue for policy makers to tackle this language "cancer " more because it also has the tendancy of eroding our identity as a nation.

When will Mr Fraizer realise that there are over 10 Akan Languages in Ghana which are not mutually intelligible to all Akans. An Ashanti speaking Akan person does not understand an Ahanta speaking Akan. Ashanti Twi is just one of the numerous Akan language. English Language is of Germanic Origin but a monoglot English speaker does not understand a monoglot German speaker.Stop using the word "Akan" as if we have a "universal" language. Just as your western sounding sounding name "Joe Frazier" does not make you a Caucasian. Some of us a pig sick of it! If you mean Ashanti or Akuapim Twi , just say so instead of Akan! We belong to the same group called "Akan" but we do not speak one language.
