We are thinking the writer of the article, Sodzi Sodzi-Tettey, intended to give us another window through which we could see what's going on, on the other side, in case one is outside the US. Even then, there are many in the US, mostly white people, who deny that racism is still institutionalized.
But yes, Ghana has a bad case of tribalism, in addition discrimination against women. We reckon that last one is worse in Ghana. And the former is probably worse in the US.

You are right . Tribalism in Ghana is like racism in the US. Which is worse? I don't know, but for me it would be worse being hated by someone with skin like my own. I've never understood tribalism, I still cannot.

Racism too cannot be completely eradicated. The issue is America has benefited enormously from racism yet it ignores the obvious-the very thing America stands for outside of its borders at least politically-those who are supposed to 'protect' are killing because of racial bigotry.
Tribalism isn't at level pegging with racism-I've read accounts of Ivorians and Togolese separately killing Ghanaians over border disputes and football matters.
Please tell us how Ewes, Akans, etc benefit from each other and in turn kill themselves as a form of institional bigotry in order to eliminate or silence those they're killing.
There are so many videos of the police in various states of America asking the silent majority (the white race) to join them in their efforts to protect America (code word for aniliation of racial minorities).
Most Americans look at their country and say if there not too many blacks there wouldn't be so much crime, they look at incarceration records and see that there are more black prisoners per capita than other races combined.
It is very very very easy to convict a black man of any crime a police officer may press or make up.
How did these blacks end up in America, they also see that they have not benefited from what their ancestors endured hence there is friction ----

Slavery wqs abolished becos slaves in the Americas were providing sugar etc in rapid amounts for European markets and consumption. Which ultimately brought down the prices and made it affordable for all poor and middleclass Europeans to consume such goods. Eventually, these non nobles wanted more.rights and political power. So slavery had to go in favor of industrialization
