Our judicial system image has been damaged beyond recovery that we have to be pessimistic about it. Did these judges understand what they were doing at all? We all know that trying to bribe a public official is a crime so, how come that when the ace investigator was luring these judges into the act, why didn't they think for a second about it or, if possible, expose the guy to the authorities? Accepting under the table deal has been part of their profession for decades and they know for sure that nothing like being exposed will ever occur.
How can we clean the judicial system?

Prof Kwasi Prempeh of Seton Hall is as wrong as can be in his assessments of the current judicial scandal and pending inquisition plans.
It is only in nations where the judiciary or government institutions are truly independent, effective and not infected with paralysis of the political kind, there is a need to be careful not to weaken institutions. Ghana does not and has never had independent and effective government institutions.
The independence of the judiciary was at stake when the late US President Nixon tried to use the judiciary to make his abuse of powers go away firing those in the judiciary who would dare have love and loyalty to the US than the Nixon presidency. In Ghana it was the NPP minted saint Kufour who picked Ms. Georgina Woods and with the assistance from an NPP majority in Ghana's Parliament put her as the Chief Justice of Ghana's Supreme Court. It was followed by the appointment of Nana Akufo-Addo as Attorney General to railroad Tsatsu Tsikata to appease the zealots and fanatical wing of the NPP to complete their cycle of vengeance they sought to visit upon the outgoing NDC government. We're judges at the various courts in Ghana supposed to be blind or not human to see how both the NPP and NDC party operatives use the systems of government to enrich thenselves, families and cronies for life? What bones did the NPP or NDC administrations ever throw at those who sit on our court benches?
Professor Prempeh and Dr. Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe cannot be serious pretending they are either unaware or do not know that principled values of the leader of an entity, private or public, sets the cultural tone, practices and procedures of workers. If there is ever a fear of weakening Ghana's judiciary it could not have been more blatantly so with the appointment and prosecution of Tsatsu Tsikata or the bribery of Ms. Georgina Woods by Kufour with the free land giveaway. It could not be far from the truth at this later date to pretend there is a great urgency to save government institutions in Ghana where the NDC and NPP has succeeded in normalizing greed, graft, nepotism and foul means of getting rich in Ghana.

Rawlings never kidnap and kill the 3 high cover judges and the major. It is their handling of the Gihoc workers case that led Amarteyquaye who was a victim of that ruling to take his pound of flash. All Gihoc workers throughout the country were sacked went they went on demonstration. When the union took this case to court these judges dismissed the union's case and asked every worker to reapply for their job. Amarteyquaye was the union leader by then.
