In any international contract, a maximum of 30, 000 km of travel time is allowed for a worker for a year. This is equivalent to 800 gallons of fuel a year. Our Medics want 100gallons a month being times 12 of that a year which is 1200 gallons a year. A whooping 150% more than required. I believe they should not ask for more than 0 gallons a month. And Government should approve 50 gallons. IMF will slap us for anything more than the 50 gallons a month. They should show where they intend to travel to with this request which can travel for 15000 km.

I have admired your piece on the grounds that being a doctor does not mean you have good negotiating skills. What they are doing is the boga boga type which is not used anymore. Now you have to lobby, convince and possible pay others to talk on your behalf. People died when Akosombo dam was being constructed. Today I am enjoying electric power from there. The same will continue to happen in other areas of life. I want the gov. to declare a state of emergency. Convert all hospitals into military hospitals and that will solve this nonsense.

Sackey , sorry to say u are totally wrong in your submission. " the tragedy of man is not the problems engendered by his fellow men towards him but being unable to see the problems he creates for others as well as himself, this is the real tragedy of man. PEOPLE LIKE AZURE AWUN, KWEKU BAAKO, AND MOST OF THE GUYS WHO HAVE ACCESS TO MEDIA AND THE MEDIA HOUSES AND CHURCHES SOMEHOW, FEEL THEY MUST PLAY OLIGOPOLY OR MONOPOLY WITH KNOWLEDGE. HOW AZURE AWUNI COULD COME OUT WITH HIS 'TRASH' REGARDING THE DOCTORS STRIKE MAKE ME ASK THE QUESTION- 'WAS HE REALLY THE JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR'? HOW THIS GUY COULD MAKE SUCH ASSETMENT WITHOUT RESEARCH INTO THE SIMPLE LEGAL CRITERAL FOR NEGOTIATION UNDER THE INDUSTRIAL LAW AS CLEARLY STATED BY THE WRITER?. WHY AZURE AWUNI COULD NOT JUST USE SIMPLE AND COMMONSENSE TO DEBATE ON THE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES OF THE STRIKE ON LIVES AND CITIZENS HEALTH IS REALLY ALARMING TO SAY THE LEAST!! DID AZURI AWUNI CONSIDER THE DOCTORS DEMANDS TO THE REST OF OTHER WORKER AND POOR TAX PAYERS WHO EQUALLY CONTRIBUTE TO THE ADVANCEMENTS IN OUR COMMUNITIES WHICH, THE DOCTORS FREELY ENJOY AND SOMEHOW, TAKE THOSE BENEFITS FOR GRANTED? HAVE THE DOCTORS SOON FORGOTTEN THE MASSIVE CONTRIBUTION BY THE TAX PAYER AND THE COMMUNITY TO THEIR TRAINING AND EDUCATION? (MAY BE THEY ARE SOMEHOW TOO INTELLIGENT TO KNOW THAT!)

I also read Manasseh's article on the doctors' strike and found it very disappointing. Disappointing not because he supported the doctors but as a seasoned journalist I expected him to have familiarised himself with the subject matter (labour laws of Ghana)before writing the article.
It's no surprise because both the doctors and government representative dealing this matter appear not know what they are doing. Remember, the doctors threatened to resign en masse yet they are demanding long service award. That was an indication that they ignorant of employment legislation.
The real problem is the fact that in Ghana, no one enforces the law and no one obeys the laws. So in the midst such a society we doctors making demands and at the same time have intentions that threaten their demands. Workers withdraw their services but receive full salary and all the allowances. Then, others take sides out of ignorant. There is no need to support either side but simply enforce and comply with the labour laws of the country and sanity will prevail.

Well done my good friend for taking on Manasseh. To be candid, I have always admired this Manasseh man for his style of writing and logical arguments he makes in his write-ups. However, after reading the article he wrote about the doctors strike, I shook my head in total disbelief, not because there was a problem with the grammar but the insults and the unfairness to the government. In fact, I do not support any of these two parties (NDC and NPP)but any level-headed seasoned journalist would have situated his or her arguments in the context of the labour laws of the land as well as the demands of the doctors before taking sides in the matter. But to ignore these glaring facts contained in the labour acts of Ghana and put the blame squarely on the government is the most absurd part of the write-up. I am currently in Germany, doctors here do not behave like the doctors in Ghana are doing. Are they more special than doctors here in Germany? Let us call a spade a spade, most of these doctors on strike have private clinics..that cannot happen here in Germany because that amounts to conflict of interest. Please doctors in Ghana soften your stands else you are loosing the respect society accords you....and to my friend Manasseh, if you take your time and look at the two sides of the coin before you write your articles it will help you a lot. Wisdom they say, is not in one man´s head. Josef

Well written, my brother. I also respected Manasseh very much, but that respect is gone for good. I saw the headline but I didn't bother myself reading the said article his. My reason was very simple: After reading an article he wrote about Dr Omane Boamah during the Talensi by-election, I noticed that some of the issues he raised failed the test of simple logic. I just asked myself "Is this the award winning Manasseh that I know?"
But let us all be careful when condemning him. If he is doing that to win a political favour in the year 2020 or running the errand of some "hidden masters", who knows?
I hope he will heed to the advice of all those commenting on this post in order to bring back his loooonng lost reputation.

Well done, I read Azure's article and was surprised that it appeared one sided argument of the facts. I have always admired his write ups but I felt sorry that he didn't consider the impact of the strike on Ghanaians.
