Mr, Dr Cobba Essel, you have ignored an essential part of the caption to your article: "Man Know Thyself". This call for man/womankind was a carving into the side of the temple of Apollo at Delphi in ancient Greece:"Know Thyself; Nothing in Excess"; and " make a pledge...".
You make a call to know oneself but you don't consider the excesses that may go along with your call.
Most health screening recommendations from the United States Public Health Services, similar to what you're proposing, are population-derived moieties that factor in, their costs versus their benefits. They are good when applied to an entire population, but may not be applicable on an individual basis. "Know Thyself" may thus appear to be the right caution to sound to "men". But the cost-benefit analysis may be the alarum you've left out for these "men". For instance, if in Ghana, going for a colonoscopy may wipe out your bank account and lead to your demise 6 months afterwards, then it may be better to forgo it than undergoing the procedure which assures you of 10 years extra longevity beyond the projected current 6 years of survival with a malignant colonic polyp. In other words, for a particular man, you will live 6 more years without the procedure but die 6 months from now if you underwent it.
My position then is that, let the Ghana Public Health Service develop a model that factor in the various vicissitudes of our Ghanaian existence to determine whether yours is a clarion call or not. All I'm saying is: "Nothing in Excess"!
