A human is either a male or female. Nothing like traditional or modern gender exists. A man or woman who is sexually attracted to another man or woman respectively is sick and requires treatment. Where such an attitude cannot be treated ordinarily, the best place is confinement. That is exactly what Ghana, and not a judge as erroneously suggested by Okoampa, did.
I do also think that the sentence was too harsh and support the appeal. Nonetheless, Dr Gabass committed two serious crimes against humanity.
Gay or homosexuality is not narrowly 'unAfrican' as Okoampa sought to suggest, but the practice is 'unhuman'.
Don't let your stay in the West lead you into thinking that we never had rules or traditions before the Europeans came.
Next time, state your case clearly. No politics is here. A wrong can never justify another wrong.

Dr Gabass is a talented doctor who should not spend a day longer behind bars. Judge Badu correctly dismissed the 'bad law' charge of 'unnatural carnal knowledge.' This charge is bad because it breaches Ghana's constitutional guarantees and commitments under the U.N. Human Rights Charter of right to privacy and freedom of association. The unnatural carnal knowledge law was held to be bad law by the UN Human Rights Commission over 20 years ago when a Tasmanian man, Rodney Croome successfully challenged this law almost 20 years ago. It is good to see Ghana's judiciary also giving effect to Ghana's treaty obligations.
In relation to the charge of defilement of a minor, Gabass was found guilty but is appealing both the conviction and the severity of the sentence as a first time offender. The prosecution evidence was flimsy and this member of the jury believes he should have the conviction overturned so that he can go back to the hospital and save lives.

I think a person of your calibre should communicate on important social issue once a while. But your writing of several articles daily, makes you a mere party communicater and irrelevant.
