  The problem in Ghana is that we have highly educated people in Ghana that could compare to any country in the world, but unfortunately Ghana has little or no industries to absorb them and use their skills so that on the field, more experience could be gained through direct and active participation. As we say, practice makes a man perfect.

  There certainly are advantages to having access to the Internet, smartphones, and other modern accessories. However, the younger generation lacks the capacity to write well because they sometimes pursue shortcuts to succeed in school and the workplace.
  
  Here is an example: Plagiarism has become a serious issue in most academic institutions because some students would rather "poach" work done by others, or resort to taking "non-academic" material from Wikipedia and other portals that most professors consider "taboo."
  
  Also, the issue of first-class honors in Ghanaian universities is debatable. Have all these people truly earned the designation? I would not bet my life on it.
  
  Finally, earning a degree definitely places one in good stead for promotion because it has remained one of the yardsticks for measuring progress and success. There is definitely a correlation between being able to stay in school and complete a program and being successful in the workplace, so earning college degrees is important for success. What we do with the degrees when we leave school is another issue altogether.
  
  Overall, we can improve the quality of education in Ghana by setting rigorous academic standards for the litany of private colleges established in the last 20 years. Going to college is one thing; making sure one gets the best education in a chosen field is another.

  Well, times have changed and not everything has changed for the better. Yes, plagiarism has increased, even in the developed countries (remember the German minister with a PhD?). But I think I want to emphasize the positives. Those who still want to do genuine work in this age of easy copying/stealing will still do it. They are the talented ones I expended some time on in my piece. I believe such people exist in Ghana too.
  
  The same goes to the hordes of First Classes in Legon these days. Not all of them may be worthy of the class they make but I still want to lift up those among them who are really, really, good. I don't suppose you'll argue that all of them are not deserving of their First Class honours?
  
  Yes, I will agree with you that earning a degree definitely places one in a good stead and I don't think I was trying to argue otherwise. My point is more that a degree, good as it is, is not, always, everything.
  
  I hope, Daniel, that you have not being too busy for us here on ghanaweb. Perhaps this is the time we need you more than ever. Let's hope we see something from you soon...
