Did the spouse of the vice president visit the school as am emissary of GES? It was politics as usual for the wife of the vice president to visit a region where the only thing that holds true is faith in the second coming of J.B Danquah; her visit was not sponsored by any government institution neither has it stated that state funds were used to acquire donated gifts. If you, Dr. Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, need an issue to bring out your tribal bigotry front and center this might not be the one. From where I sit and reason failure by a government to render mandated services to the people has never been reason for civic minded citizen's with means to hide behind their gated comunities even as the poor suffer all around; it may be the Donald Trump way in your neck of the woods but not the American way or the Ghanaian way. A wise and innovative administrator could have fashioned any number of ways to obtain white chalk with one or all of the donated computers but then it would not be in Ghana and certainly not in a region that live for bomb throwers and worship their elite class. It's a shame you, Dr. Kwame, the love and hero of the people in the Eastern region of Ghana is yet to airlift a plane load of chalk to your kinfolks rather than wait on a government you've declared to be incompetent.

I thought the Dr. would rather espouse less Government intervention and more self-reliance, after the philosophy of his Uncle's Party.
In my days in Elementary School, most Schools had School Gardens or Farms whose produce could be sold to supplement School Supplies. Wouldn't such a philosophy mentioned above rather support a similar effort by the Schools, today, even if the source of funds for such supplements were sought for outside the Agricultural setting?
Schools, today, could engage in Fundraising of all kinds, and even explore light commercial activities similar to the Girl Scouts Cookie sales in the USA.
Again, in my School-Days in Ghana, it was common for Schools to even fund more expensive programs or projects than Chalk Supplies by themselves. For example, the Catholic Boys Middle School at Berekum, B/A, that I attended for a while, under the leadership of the Headmaster, Mr. Osei Boateng, procured most of its funds for extra-curricula Programs, like Sports, with proceeds from the School Farm that we, the students ourselves, created. The School's Soccer Team had more than 10 different sets of Jerseys, and a huge locker-room with beautiful durable Wooden and Glass Cabinets that stored the Sports Supplies in a detached Office Building.
It takes some inspired leadership and creativity to make Schools self-supporting. And I hate to think Ghana lacks that kind of leadership among our contemporary Educators, (teachers and School Administrators).
Mr. Osei Boateng, surely, wasn't an exception in that regard in that era, but he stood out as 'primus inter pares' with the hard-to-match exuberance and raw talent that he brought to bear in all that he undertook with the School. He was the only informally self-trained professional Soccer Coach extraordinaire I ever encountered who later became the Head Coach of the B/A United in the hay days of that national Soccer Club.
Why can't our teachers and School Administrators of today cultivate similar selfless, inspired initiative to augment whatever is expected of the Government?
Long Live Ghana!!!

Okoampa, the idiot and village buffoon is always writing garbage. He claims he passed through 40 years ago, yet has the nerve to write nonsense, name dropping and baseless arguments. He should have contacted the school to find out what the current situation is and obtain relevant information from the Headmistress, teachers and pupils. A good journalist should conduct relevant research and interview the parties concerned before writing an opinion. The ill-informed trash that he rushes to post on several websites is annoying and exposing his ignorance. As soon as he reads anything on these websites, without cross-checking or verifying any information, he makes it his business to write fruitless rejoinders. He has nothing useful to occupy his time. He is advised to pause, think, conduct thorough research and refrain from nasty insults. Sometimes silence is golden. I hope his children are reading his articles. They will soon discipline him.

You may not agree with his position on an issue (and I very often don't) but I don't think he deserves the unnecessary name calling. Your criticism and advise to him are all in order but these may only serve the intended purpose if done with some decorum.

I strongly support your call for decorum in our discourse for a better Ghana but if it came to name-calling, there could hardly be any person you would encounter that engages in it more than Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr. He might have well presented his thesis for his PhD. on the theme "Excelling in pejorative name-calling to demean opponents".
If you ever encountered the following insulting, derogatory name-calling, you could bet your bottom dollar on it that it was coined, first used, and just repeated by Okoampa-Ahoofe,Jr.:
The Professor has earned the unenviable notoriety for pervasive verbal assaults on all who dare challenge him, or disagree with him and his Political idols like
his Uncles Akufo-Addo and J. B. Danquah. He is an unabashed claimant of the unparalleled 'prowess' for effusive, unwarranted, debasing of all he considers antagonistic on this forum and the larger Public Media.
So, if you have any admonishment to offer to sanitize this forum, no one deserves it better than the Professor.
I acknowledge two wrongs don't make a right, as the sages say, but an advice is best directed to where it most fits.

Perhaps the vice wife's reaction could be lightly be a deviation from the usual but I see nothing wrong with the content of what she said. About time we encourage community service in our townships as it used to be the practice. My Primary School was built by the residents in my village though none of them attended school. There were community cleaning project in the village every Saturday morning when every resident in the village must attend. Upon the orders of the chief, sometimes a wells or places of public convinience( toilets)are dug at strategic areas for water for the community. The people didn't wait for the government to do that for them. Actually, they bit the officialdom for those social amenities that they can provide for themselves. But what is the situation now Ahoofe? Everyone or group are all waiting for the government to even feed them with everything. Our people have become politically and mentally lazy. There is no community spirit or dedication anymore. We simply refuse to use our brains, hands and feet to create descent and health environments for ourselves and prefer to rot away into some sort of social decadence. What a shame! They couldn't speak meaningless and archaic big words like Ahoofe but they were had foresight, imaginative, practical and very wise indeed.

I agree with you, is about time government handover missionary schools back to the churches, because Ghana Education Board whatever their name is, are doing a bad job. I think they threw the Veep's wife under the bus, if they were doing a good job they could have advice her that, that school don't have no electricity in the first place or they could have ask the school about their need and want. The GEB should be dismantled and sack all those fat guys who sit in their stupid air conditioners, while boxes of chalk sit in warehouse. Is about time we as Ghanaians put our leaders who are in positions of interest in check, because they are acting irrelevant. We need leadership who have P-O-L-C which is Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling. We need leaders who respond to the challenge of creative problem solving.
