tHE aKANS LOVE ACCRA THAN THEIR OWN HOME CITIES. THE Kookoase fuo are quick to tell the northerners to leave Accra and go back north, yet they leave their Kumasi and the Akyem and flood accra with their family and. only go home to kookoase to campaign for votes. They claim they have gold and everything yet reside in Accra and tell the poor northerners to leave Accra and go home? Huh!!! What is wrong with Kumasi and all these guys: Ursula, akomea, nana, kuffuor, etc want to live in Accra? All the Ashantis and Akyems call Kumasi the best and yet retire and live in Accra. Apparently Accra is good for everyone. So why blame the ones who come from poor places/ they have a better reason to migrate to accra than the ones who call them names yet leave their hole and come and love accra and even want to be MPs. Their kingsmen have all run and left their hole and are so many in accra that they even can have the number to make their own mps. What is wrong with Kumasi?

I am the least surprised of your response to this educative article . Whoever and whatever you are you have clearly displayed the mentality and of course your ignorance to learn. So you mean you cannot pick up anything which could be beneficial for mankind from this short essay by Ade? Perhaps you have indicated to all on this forum that you could hardly understand the article. But that shouldn't be any shame for you. You see Ade's articles touched on many subjects in various perspectives such as political history, assimilation and integration something you have to know or be aware of, if your quest for travels outside your village, town or country, could be beneficial to you. He talked about the politics and political agenda-past and present, sociology-culture, values, beliefs and language and the environment and its system, the economic geography etc. You could have at least made an intelligent and constructive contribution to Mr Ade Sawyer's article even though, you had not that access to Asase's. I think you have interestingly placed yourself in the 'hole' for justifying your inclusion as someone capable of making any constructive contribution to the open debates on this forum towards the advancement and progress of Ghana. Your attitude, I am sorry is not the right recipe for the enhancement of progress of our communities and Ghana in general.

The most beautiful language in Ghana yet they hardly make any noise about everybody adopting it. Accra people are very accomodating. I just love them. They are so simple you think thay are highly ambitious. BUT they have to make sure they take back their city by asserting their language. Even in Germany an Akan man talks to me in Twi. This agenda for every Ghanaian to speak Twi. It is a hidden agenda, but It will fail miserably, I'll pay money to learn Ga, but I'll not learn twi with a stipend. Period.

When we decentralize people will feel proud to stay in their towns. Already many Asantes living abroad return straight to Kumasi, they build houses there too. Same for Koforidua people.

Your "Grand" statement reveals an infantile state of mind. Whoever speaks Twi to you is not asking you to do the same, it is a request. You have the choice to refuse to speak back in Twi, I find it insolent on his part though but you have the right to speak your language of choice. There is no hidden agenda for Twi. It is just a natural occurrence that has happened several times in the history of man. In any multi language environment, one language tends to emerge as the preferred choice of many. Hausa emerge from Northern Nigeria to become the lingua franca of the Police and Armed forces of Ghana. At one time Ga was the hippest language on all academic campuses. This is evolution and you can’t stop it. Insist on speaking your
preferred tongue and that could start a revolution which could spread around and becomes accepted. I don't know how old you are but Radio Ghana used to read the News in Twi, Hausa, Dagbani, Ga, Ewe and Nzima out of about 30 we have in Ghana. Those languages were selected for their broad base and Twi has become the most widely spoken and is becoming the unofficial language of Commerce if I may say so. If I were you, if someone spoke Twi to me in Germany, I would advise you to speak your language or German back to that person. That would drive home the message.
Folks stop these unnecessary Twi bashing, promote your language of choice which is not a crime.
In an unfamiliar Ghanaian environment I normally speak English, what surprises me lately is that the Non-Twi speakers switch to Twi on autopilot, which is not my fault.
Northerner, come back to me on this one. I rest my case. No insults please let’s keep it civil.

Well said . Here in the USA, I know some non-Twi speaking Ghanaian pastors who prefer the use of Twi to communicate with other Ghanaians because they know which side their bread is buttered. Go to every party be it a Ga or Northerner party and the music of choice is in Twi. Then they turn around and accuse Akans of imposing their language on them. When Ga was the language of choice in most secondary schools they never complained.

I don't know what you mean by this but long before Ashantis came to Accra, people in Accra were using the beaches of Accra as toilets. Places like Ga Mashie, Chorkor and La are predominantly populated by Gas. Are non Gas responsible for congestion and filth in those areas?

Yaw, I am sorry but i did not state that Ga did not use the beaches. As some has asked me, what is the difference between their using the beaches and the pure unaldulterated excreta the is pumped into Lavendar Hill from those who have water closets in their homes? What is certain is that the filth has grown out of all proportions. but this reminds me of a guy who was introduced to WCs when he came to Accra for the first time and expected that there would be corncobs in the small rooms and not toilet paper. Do not blame the Ga for all the evils of Ga and to blame them of xenophobia just takes the biscuit

Federalism may work perfectly for Ghana so let's give it a well deserved thought. It'd result in the decongestion of Accra which is presently overwhelmed with a population crisis. As things are, the state is neither being fair to the indigenous Ga people nor to their many guests and squatters who're relocating in hordes to Accra out of necessity and for lack of business opportunities in their regions and places of residence. The federalism argument is a very compelling one because it'd ensure the rapid development of all parts of the nation which has hitherto been acutely retarded. After all this is not the first time this federalism option is being suggested.

The common factor in all the problems observed is opportunity. We really need to de-centralize government services, to the point where every region is autonomous to a very large extent.
