I know for sure it cannot be post 1966 because Ghana went through a time there when any idiot with military uniform and a "tia brofil" gun could overthrow a sitting government and claim to be head of state. It could not be the 70's or 80's when there was a rash of failed civilian governments either. And it surely could not be the J.J. Rawlings era either when the Rawlings household could confiscate anything that could be claimed by Mrs. Rawlings and her 31st Women's organization either.
Woe betides those who claim Kufour is a man of honor for the brand and level of corruption, elevated tribal discourse and the ascendancy to higher level in society on the backs of tribal preferences and the shear stealing that has become a norm for the NPP and NDC. Ghana's best days were certainly prior to 1966 when it took men of courage to crack the whip on a society of classroom educated misfits who needed structure and discipline. We chose to be delusional even as we claim to be free.

May be your dad was in the army who abused his position by seizing "essential commodities" from traders to feed you and your siblings.
