In the sermon on the mount, Jesus said some people will inherit the earth that means not everyone will go to heaven.
Now, my question is, at times we hear that God is for the living so, why should we die before seeing him?

Your question was answer by Paul and he said '' for a seed to germinate it needs to die before life must begin''. The body we have is not our real body again after man disobeyed God by sinning. God said he will die so death came to us all and with the Jesus death life also came to us. So we must put this earthly body down and have the heaven body. Not all of us must die to have this body as concerning the RAPTURE. As in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 says it.

As an avid student and admirer of the late Rev. Dr Martin Luther King Jr., I recall the speech he gave at the armory in Harlem, NYC On Dec. 17, 1964 when he was being honored after winning the Nobel Peace Prize, and his sermon at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC on March 31, 1968, the final Sunday of his life.
On both occasions, he talked about Dives and Lazarus. Your sermon/speech or whatever, could have been culled from either of those. But Dr King was exemplary not only with his words but also with his actions. He consigned all of the monetary awards from the Nobel prize to the Civil Rights movements then raging on in the US.
His was no proselytizing, but I see yours as possibly laying the foundation stone for such: if the Texas law firm doesn't prosper, then the foundation stone for enriching the self in Ghana, would have been laid.
I was recently in Ghana and was greatly perturbed at the religious brain washing of my grand niece and nephew. They told stories of firing pistols at "Maame Water"; at family members who ostensibly don't want them to prosper; of the spiritual rewards of fasting, where the drier the fast, the greater the rewards;of being made to feel guilty if they could not fill up with money the numerous envelopes the pastors register in their names. I must have sounded apostatic to them, for my grand nephew counseled me that if I were to attend his church and argue against these, the youth in the church would rise up against me physically. And yet we rail against ISIS, and yet we rail against Boko Haram.
And as Dr King alluded to about segregation, this modern proselytizing is nothing, but a new form of mind- control and fanaticism-inducing endeavor, covered up with such niceties of "thus saith the Lord"

You should argue as a lawyer and stop stating "facts" not in evidence.
You state:
"When I first heard about this story as a young boy, my take away from it at that time was that poor people were likely to go to heaven and rich people were likely to go to hell. At that time, that lesson was not bad for me because if you separated people into two categories -- rich or poor -- I knew the side to which I belonged. Today, it does not matter because it is not a question of rich or poor. The rich man did not go to hell because he was rich, and Lazarus did not go to heaven because he was poor."
But that first impulse you had of the interpretation of the Lazarus parable was spot on, because taken the narrative in its entirety without adding anything to it, the rich man went to hell simply because he was rich, and the poor man went to hell simply because he was poor. And if construed this way, the foolishness of Jesus' parable becomes obvious to you, now well-endowed enough to dissemble its implication to your life as a probably wealthy citizen. When you were a child and knew where you belonged, you interpreted the parable differently. Now that you are old and know where you belong, you interpret the parable differently.
But I can forgive your self-serving chicanery. What I cannot forgive is that you still believe in the fairy tale of heaven and hell. This I find to be irresponsible, given your level of education.
What would you tell me if I were to ask you to list here activities you would perform in heaven which you cannot perform here on earth, given your abundant resources?
Or what exact evil has anybody in Ghana perpetrated, such that he/she will deserve to be burned alive?

Lawyer Gyebi , I like what you said regarding the fact that the rich man did not go to Hell because he was rich and Lazarus did not go to Heaven because he was poor.
Having compassion for people is a testament of God in you. The rich man’s character and his indifference towards Lazarus is the demonstration of how far his heart was away from God and that is the reason why he landed in Hell.
The story also gives us the glimpse of Heaven and Hell. Both rich and poor are in Heaven.
Abraham went to Heaven as a rich man. Lazarus went to as a poor man. Do you want to go to heaven as Abraham or as Lazarus? My prayer is that I enter the Heaven as Abraham because that is the will and purpose of God for my life as a child of God because the Bible says in (Galatians 3:14 that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith). Amen!
