Your piece is well written and refreshing to read. However, I disagree with the main theme of your article: the attempt to exclude acts of wanton killings from the rise and practice of Islam. The historical facts simply negate your claims.
Fact is, those Islamic terrorists also quote copioulsy from the Quran and the Haiths to justify their actions, and there are lot of precedents to back them.
As much as you Muslims and Christians like to deny it, the two so-called books of your religions contain horrendous calls on believers to kill others. Yes, massacre them and to destroy their properties. If some Jews and Christians try to obey the dictates in the Old Testament and the Torah, there would once again be the gnashing of teeth of some people just as it were some couple of 100 years ago when those same books were used to sanction the capture and sale into slavery of Africans, especially black Africans. Of course, the Muslims also did same on a far more horrendous scale, using their Quran as giving them justification to enslave the kaffirs from teh land o fteh unbelievers. I have written a two-series article on that myself. Might re-post them here to educate you and others.
Btw, I am afraid, religion today is an albatross and drawback on civilization. It retards civilization to no mean measure. We must beat back the match and ravages of religion, especially , fanatical fundamentalism to rescue education and civilization from the obscurantism of religion.

Christians do not stone people to death or cut off hand of thieves in the name of Jehova or praise him for slaughter people as if they are goats because the Bible tells us that " ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALLEN SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD " so ther is no justification in slashing throats to pleas God. Norway, Iceland, Australia, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, Japan, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the United Kingdom are among the least religious on earth. According to the United Nations' Human Development Report (2005) they are also the healthiest, as indicated by life expectancy, adult literacy, per capita income, educational attainment, gender equality, homicidal rate, and infant mortality. Insofar as there is crime in Western Europe, it is largely the result of immigration. Seventy percent of inmates in France's jails, for instance are Muslims. Conversely, the fifty nations now ranked lowest in terms of the United Nations' human development index are unwaveringly religious. Anecdotally, eighty percent of all deaths on our planet today is not due to cancer or traffic accidents but to religious conflicts. Herein lies the contribution of religion to civilization.

Throughout the ages, there is no doubt that the human condition has benefited immensely from the civilization ethos of both education and religion, but one dare not overlook the sad fact that human beings continue to engage in miseducation, bigotry, racial supremacy, corruption, and extreme fundamentalism.
Potentially, we can build a world that deliberately uses the civilization mechanisms of education & religion, or is that utopian?

Racism and tribalism is still very high an issue in Arabia.Spain was colonised by Moroccan muslims, Ethiopia was invaded and Islam forced on them by muslim imperialists; the story is the same with Persia, now Iran and all the muslim majority nations in Asia. So it is not true that Muslims are innocent of these crimes as you seek to portray probably out of ignorance. Muslims are naturally violent even without provocation. Christians in Nigeria, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, etc. do not suffer persecution because they provoke muslims unless if being a Kafir(an infidel) is a provocation. Besides Muslims are not the only religious people who get provoked, that French magazine has written and drawn more blasphemous materials about Christianity than any religion. In fact muslims, particularly Islamic preachers, commit blasphemy against other religions than anyone does to Islam.

His act led to a trail of massacre upon massacre and the destruction of Christianity in North Africa. Modern society is being bombed left right and centre by Moslems. As we speak, a Tunisian Moslem has just butchered a lot of tourists in Tunisia without any provocation whatsoever. Who provoked the Moslems who blew up buses/trains etc in Madrid,Kenya,Tanzania,London,Kuwait etc.To deny the barbaric Arab/Moslem slavery in Africa is an insult.Yes,the Europeans were slave traders,they do not deny that. Hiroshima and Nagasaki happened because the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour. Now, when did publishing the face of Muhammed become an offence? This article seems to imply that Chinese, Cubans, Russians and other citizens of Eastern Europe who excluded religion from their school activities are not educated. We wrote sometime ago that the churches sold religion to their members. Thus education to the churches was a commercial activity, rather than been the means of emancipating their members and the Abraham religious institutions still collect fees and other charges from those who attend their schools up to date. Islam for instance is against formal education for females, the reason why schools, women, girls and those who support female education are still being killed in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Nigeria, Chad,Niger, Central African Republic and others. The history of human civilization proved that those who promoted formal education for all are anti-religious.
