It is interesting how people question traditional practices and our culture especially when we profess to be a christian and Islamic nation not to forget other religious beliefs as well.it is even more bizarre when people question the traditional practices of their host. this attitude of their guest is an abuse of the hospitality accorded by their hosts.
The Gas are by nature hospitable and treat their guest with decency. This may be due to the fact that tradition demands that hospitality out of fear of the gods and that is their belief system.
In all Ga libations and cultural activities they pray to the gods to help them welcome to their homes guests near and afar. The Gas gave their accommodation freely to their guests and they in turn reciprocated with respect to their values and culture.
Modernity has changed everything and the guest can now live independent of the hosts and therefore owes the Gas nothing any more.Hospitality in today’s world has become little more than being friendly and considerate to your guest. There are no universal rules for the conduct of the host or the guest; much less a threat of violence if a person does not behave in a certain manner.
But it seems to me that some people are abusing these evolution to mean the Gas are lazy and that their lands have been taken away from them. Some even go as far calling them unprintable names and naturally they will not be happy with this development. Now they are showing a crass disrespect to their culture and traditional practices. If there is no basis for any religion but we respect them then we should respect the culture of the Gas.
Whilst they look on when their language is being adulterated, now they are faced with the adulteration of their culture as well, no wonder some Gas are fighting back.
We must remember that when a language dies it dies with its culture ans so don't expect the Gas to look on with smiles. As much as Accra is for all Ghanaians,we must remember that it is also a home to a people called the Gas

We are seeing a contradiction in a "property owning democracy" that claims to be conservative, but has little value for "tradition".
ITEM: Like any person, "traditional leaders" ought to be able to say anything they want, subject to the law, and what their people will freely accept.
However, it is up to the secular political leaders, under the Unitary Constitution, to lead in setting national priorities and implementation of a coherent development agenda that have at bottom science, technology, and rationality, and yes, the needs of the Ghanaian/African that is not necessarily a need for Western/Eastern/Asian/Muslim ideologies, values, and religion(s).
None of Ghana's leaders, living today or dead, ever came close to the legacy of Kwame Nkrumah in this regard - in promoting science, technology, industry, development, and secularism. And yes, the "African Personality."
READ: "...And when we spend millions training scientists who will never apply scientific thinking; or engineers who will never engineer anything; or writers who will never write anything; or teachers who will never teach anything; or doctors who will never discover treatment for any disease………"
WE SAY: Haba!
When was it ever the normal role and practice of a doctor to "discover treatment for any disease"?
We could analogize the same about all the professions cited above, but we will not waste our time.
To the point, is our Dr. Samuel Adjei Sarfo telling us with respect to "doctors" he is referring to "traditional doctors", otherwise known as "Healers", "Herbalists", etc.?
Further, if we are going to single out "scientists", "engineers", "teachers", and "doctors", why must we be absent-minded about lawyers? Or, again, is our Dr. Samuel Adjei Sarfo telling us lawyers are in a special class, a class more useful that those he identifies for ridicule?
What value has been Ghanaian lawyers, including the ones now in government, and before?

Samuel Adjei Sarfo, take it or leave it, the disrespect for the traditions and customs of the Ga people is what caused the disaster!!
The cultural practices of the Gas include one month in every quarter when bans are placed on fishing and recreational activities in and around the Korle lagoon and other water bodies to ensure that they remain clean and are not unecessarily silted throughout the year. But what do we see today? Every damn garbage is thrown into the water bodies in Accra by people who have made up their minds not to respect the traditions and culture of the Gas. The disaster we have just withnessed is one of the far reaching consequences of such disrespect. Adjei Sarfo, tell me whether you cannot deduce any scientific admonition in the traditional ban of the fishing and recreational activities in and around the water bodies.

We seem to have missed the point Dr Samuel Sarfo was trying to address. His assertion is not particularly about Gas,Ashantis,Ewes, etc. The whole continent of Africa and for that matter, black people have been miseducated. We need to revisit our belief system when it comes to religion, tradition. We now have educated elites who are absolutely retarded and with a huge brain malfunction.
For how long should we believe in the so called Almighty God,deities, false preachers to solve our problems. The white man uses his brains, science and technology while the Ghanaian educated elite rely primarily on prayers and fasting and no amount of persuation, logic or smart thinking can change them from this practice and stupidity.
Ghana now needs patriotic leaders of vision with analytical minds and not the likes of Akuffo Addo,John Kuffour or Mahama. They are too much corrupt to think properly.

Sarfo, has a point but his wholesale characterisation is wrong. Permit me to ask a few questions. Was he home-schooled/self-taught or he passed through the Ghana education system? Did he write his article as a non-partisan Ghanaian or as an NPP member? Why is he praising only young NPP members and not inventors like Bright Simon, Prince Kofi Kludgeson,Herman Hesse,Asidu Abudu etc? Why is he lambasting all the selfless/devoted teachers, agriculturalists, medics as some Zombies? Are lawyers {not on his list] more useful or productive to society than our doctors or teachers? The Duncan Williams,Otabils,Obinims of Ghana got their inspiration from the corrupt American evangelists they saw on Tv. On sakawa, the crooked boys in Ghana are doing the same as Bernard Madoff,Tyco,Lehman Brothers etc and other corrupt bankers in the western world. Reagan and a lot of other US Presidents are noted for consulting occults, astrologers etc in times of crises. What exactly does the SDA stands for in his favourite school in Ghana? is it Secular Devotee Association or Seventh Day Adventist?Do they teach religious knowledge in that school? Would he put himself in the same category as hopeless when he was a teacher in Ghana?

2. My religious faith does not impede my questioning spirit; so it has never been relevant here; and so is the issue of whether I was home-schooled or formally schooled. I was both anyway.
3. I taught at the SDA school and indeed founded the SDA High School. There is even a dormitory named after me; but I really don't see your point. I will question every religious faith nevertheless. I am not bound by any.
4. I am a strong NPP, but I write as a concerned Ghanaian about the rot in the system. I don't leave NPP out.
5. My list of young hopefuls is not supposed to be exhaustive; those you list also represent hope.
6. Is it your position that any of the issues I raised is not supported by facts? Otherwise I really don't see your point.

The problems we have in Ghana are as a result of people not thinking like lawyers. Once the people begin to think like lawyers, our problems will vanish. It is for this reason that I have exempted lawyers from blame.
Every one of my clients will tell you that I am one damned good lawyer. And every one of my students will tell you that I am one damned teacher.
When I learn how to do stuff, I learn how to do stuff.

Every thing or body thinks of "self preservation" first. I don't blame your intentions. Who makes the laws? Who interprates the laws? Who gives judgement in the name of laws? A well trained lawyer you sure are. Corruption and thievery started with the introduction of laws. Traditions are cultural 'laws' Scientific laws are 'thinking laws' When you put both together, we have manipulating laws. Show me any salesman/woman that will not defend what they sell. Glad you opened and shed light on what most of us never think off. At the same time, your ending tells it all. Self preservation of your trade. Sure appuu, a lawyer is the most able to solve Ghana's problem alright.

The likes of you will help Ghana far better by being on the ground there than staying outside the country. You do not have to relocate to Ghana but you can divide your time between your practice in Texas(?) and another one in Ghana. In the absence of that, visit more often and stay longer.
And do not renounce your Ghanaian citizenship. After all we now have dual citizenship. That will prevent you from occupying certain positions in Ghana but there are still lots of areas in which you can operate to the betterment of the motherland.

Critical analysis. Why would those young women allow their fathers to manipulate the delegates with money and Antoa? Believe me, they are no different than the rest. As a nation, we are retrogressive. We fear Antoa more than God. We love quick money and refuse to think about the consequences of cash for votes. Read what Sir John said about Kwabre East. The delegates should be ashamed of themselves. Come again.
