Health and safety is an important aspect of human life and politicians should not compare it with votes . S&G is a health hazard and must be demolished..

Every comment above articulates the goal of a democratic society to provide for its people. But, in a kleptocracy as we presently live under, the focus on plundering the national coffers relegates important matters to second place only as an afterthought. As long as all the productive assets are owned by those who serve or served as ministers or officials in government, the standards of conduct thus established will guarantee no willful change in our circumstances. The writer's call for a purposeful approach to solving these problems is well-meant but has one essential precondition: where is the money? Our leadership is aware of this yet they don't question the apparent evidence of officials living beyond their means. They know that the salaries of these people cannot support their lifestyles but they ask no questions. Why are all the petrol stations owned only by former or present ministers? Why should the government be subsidizing petrol for everyone even those who can afford expensive luxury vehicles? Why should the government be importing food for a country whose only production is agriculture? We can talk all we want about the goverment's responsibility to people who have no place to call home until hell freezes over --- they can't do it without the money they stole for themselves. Food imports benefit only the importer who is likely a former government official. The whole world laughs at us and all we can talk about is what to do about S&G? S&G is the victim of a much bigger problem, which has to be addressed before gaining traction to move forward.
