You see the way you think can never make Ghanaians able to be either mathematicians nor scientists.
There's math and science in everything our forefathers did and do, but simply because it is different from the way the white man learns and educates himself and those he thinks needed his watered down education, which he vilified and labeled evil, we tend to shy away from our elders and think we can learn from other people instead of our grandfathers.
When i was a kid in my village, anytime my grandmother made a big soup late at night, she would put a chunk of charcoal in it so that it would not get decayed.
Years latter in life and to others in science class, they would learn how carbon prevents decay. But that is theory. But how many kids reading that can quickly relate charcoal that we play with everyday would even know that that is carbon in solid form and let alone know that without fridge and in a time of dumsor, common charcoal can save the day?
My grand ma was a traditionalist but she was not dumb like all these so-called modern families that send their children to learn english with extra class on top but dumb as two left shoes with practical life skills.
Japanese and Chinese still have their cultures and their new year celebrations has nothing in common to what white people had taught us and to many of "you" that may look like fetish and superstition but their maths and science came out from they way they perceived life in their environment.
In your environment, is wealth, but we live in Africa and want to behave like we're in the US/EU. Well there're consequences. Example, we have major leagues to develop and make money from with over 300million population from Nigeria to Senegal,TV COMMERCIA rights and sport merchandizing, hotels and stadiums and maintenance alone would turn over billions of dollar but what did we do with that environment? We turned it down just like everything else and throw our full support on European soccer leagues. No group of people ever did nothing like that. Not even Americans whose brothers are managing those leagues knew anything on Manchester United, because they have their Yankee and Lakers and stealers to "environmentally" deal with in terms of money making.
Now back on mathematics and science.
Take IFA and AFA divination of the Yoruba and the Ewhe people and you'd found out how much mathematics is involved and the mental toughness that it required to know all the more than 300 plus kpoli edu the priests have know by heart plus all the related permutations in order to read the oracle rightly.
Any child that can go thru that would blow any other city dwellers out of the steam in any math class.
In many situations in Africa, children from rural settings do very well in Maths than those in city running after the whitman's mirage.
What we need is a balanced child that is made to valued tradition and the same time move into the future with all the wisdom of his forebears.
A balanced child is the one that becomes bold and if he's a lawyer, will take on evil doers whether they're white or black, rich or poor.
Most African lawyers i came across in the US can not even look at a white judge in the eyes.
If you grow up believing in yourself and where you come from, no one can intimidate you.
Culture and tradition has to be a dynamic phenomenon. It has to flow to meet the day at hand and that means it got to be adaptive to relate to the way we teach our kids at school.
And that also means bringing in my grand mother who never been to school to demonstrate her knowledge of the charcoal.
TAKE HER OUT AND OTHERS LIKE HER WHO WE MAY CALL SUPERSTITIOUS AND THAT AFRICAN CHILD IS FOREVER LOST IN THE EASY LAND OF SCIENCE AND MATHS.
Can we in Ghana pause a second and ask ourselves why Nigerians are better writers and great originators in the arts than us?

SAS do not appreciate the fact that science and religion are both one and the same thing. The so-called Einstein theories are all attempts by scientist to postulate and explain what religious sages have put forward long ago. For instance the so-called Newton's third law which states that action and reaction are opposite and equal is simply THE LAW OF KARMA found in the ancient Hindus Vedic Scriptures.
Even the some of the so-called voodoo practices have profound scientific connotations. For instance the scientific axioum of ACTION AT A POINT in which long distance objects like robots on planet Mars could be controlled from earth is a well known concept of voodoo traditional worship.
Most scientific laws have religious underpinnings. You can not throw away religion to study science.
When the scientist say that Global warming is taking place it is the same as the religious person reading in the scriptures that GOD, that the scientist say he doesn't exist, will destroy the world with fire.
If the scientist say that there was a BIG BANG and the world was created it is the same as "In the beginning GOD created heaven and earth"
Our forefathers were even more scientific and they had learned to put into practice more and more of scientific laws. For example they forbade the clearing of forest close to water bodies. They practice bush fallowing just to allow the land to replenish and regain itself.
So why then do we label them them as uneducated and unscientific. I can tell you that modern western education has done us more harm than good. We are a lost generation trying to re-define ourselves. We now seem to think that the white has answers to our problems.
Africans have thrown away the scientific meanings of religion and that is why there seem to be some confusion all over the place.
The so-called superstition and some of the cultural practices that we label as fetish and archaic all have science behind them.
The answers are all here with us and within us.

What you have asserted here will in no way help the educational system of Ghana to see improvements, simply because Dr. SAS you were expressing your own opinions; you were full of conjectures,so to speak. I was waiting to see your hypotheses. I didn't see any.
You have not done any research on our traditional system of chieftain which you said "has no room for for the incorporation of science and mathematics into it."
What is the evidence to backup your claim Attorney Dr. SAS?
You made several research able assertions that could help future researchers to get to the bottom of why Ghana has plummeted ignominiously to the bottom of global education.
Has it really? A robust scientific method might shed some light on this question.
You see the way you think can never make Ghanaians able to be either mathematicians nor scientists.
