Folks, what's all the fanfare and expense on the dead about ? It's just an opportunity for people to flaunt their wealth and exercise pretense of the highest order !!
Indeed it is placing premium on the dead over the living, and that is balderdash !!
So much money spent on a corpse that has absolutely no bearing on its destination....just a wanton dissipation of resources in the name of "a grand sending off !!" Apuu torr !!! Such is out state of dystopia !! All this is vanitas vanitatum......heaven is the terminus.

The right word is "AKANS NOT AHSANTIS" because the same ritual is practised by Akyems,Akwapems,Sefwis etc in Ghana as well as the Agnis,Baules and the rest of the Akan tribes in Ivory Coast. These subtle references of "Ashantis" by Ashanti writers as if they are on top of the whole Akan tribe pisses us off. That said, you are spot on on the increasing commercialisation of funerals in Ghana. It is wrong, wrong, wrong.

I didn't mean to rate Ashantis above the other Akan tribes. It is important not to generalise, unless I'm absolutely certain about what I'm writing. Thanks for the education all the same.

Ironically, the imperialist respected our traditions more than the modern day "Afropeans"

I admire the the way funerals are carried out in the north. Having been well travelled in Ghana, I can certainly say that is one of the most cost effective way to conduct a funeral.
