I had wondered similarly on that Osei Mensah Bonsu's undemocratic whining. But I think we have to be even more concerned that his attitude represents a certain claim of entitlement to Political Office among our Politicians that suggests an endemic dictatorial trait in them.
Ironically, such are the very Politicians who have always rightly condemned Nkrumah's dictatorship.
Isn't that hypocritical? We probably may be better served to mitigate our mental anguish with the thought that our seniors, contemporaneous with Nkrumah's era, were traditionally prone to accept, exhibit or condone dictatorial practices.
That might well explain Dr. Busia's own moment of dictatorship with his handling of the Civil Servants conflict during his era. Another instance of such tendency is former President Kufuor's interference with the Tsakata Ruling that set the controversial pro-Rawlings don and former GNPC head free, by appointing new Justices to the Supreme Court to retry and convict Tsikata. Nkrumah did similarly, much to the chagrin of the Opposition, by firing his Chief Justice for failing to convict those perceived to have masterminded an attempt to assassinate him. However, we have come a long way since those days. And our modern democratic dispensation must have much lesser room for such dictatorial behavior across the board.
