"Mr. Smith, you're going to be just fine," the nun said while patting his hand. "We do have to know, however, how you intend to pay for your stay here. Are you covered by insurance?"
"No, I'm not," the man whispered hoarsely.
"Can you pay in cash?"
"I'm afraid I can't, Sister."
"Do you have any close relatives, then?"
"Just my sister in New Mexico," replied, "but she's a spinster nun."
"Nuns are not spinsters, Mr. Smith," the nun replied. "They are married to God."
"Okay," the man said with a smile, "then bill my brother-in-law."

Wow! That is why if you don't have passion in this profession, you do not even enrol as one. God bless all health professionals, especially nurses.

Nice piece of work, men are better nurses. The problem is the landlord system and overly respect for doctors and little or no for other health staff. Education and civility will come and change will be eminent

Well done for the nice article. But some of your reactions to patients are not acceptable in the spirit of professionalism and good customer care. We are in an era where we expect health workers to embrace the business principles of customer care in public institutions even under provocation. Your narration of your experiences with clients and how you handled situations where your were provoked indicate that you may not yet have been trained on the customer care policy of the Ghana health service. Otherwise you would have learnt how to manage difficult clients professionally even when they provoke you.I suggest you ask for the customer care manual and abreast yourself of its provisions and I believe you will do better in managing patients behaviors as a professional instead of being confrontational in your approach. You will most likely have acted differently if you were working in a private hospital otherwise you drive away clients. We need to embrace this new paradigm shift in the public sector and help clean up the image of poor and unreceptive customer service.
