THEN THIS: "...“The coup in Ghana is another example of a fortuitous windfall. NKRUMAH WAS DOING MORE TO UNDERMINE OUR [AMERICAN] INTERESTS THAN ANY OTHER BLACK AFRICA.”..."
OUR COMMENT: Chuck on all of that, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal/Africa,
THE QUESTION: Did Nkrumah not influence Martin Luther King, Jr.
READ THID: "... King (and Coretta) arrived in Accra, the Gold Coast (soon to be Ghana), on 4 March (1957) and attended a reception where he met Vice President Richard Nixon. King told Nixon, “I want you to come visit us down in Alabama where we are seeking the same kind of freedom the Gold Coast is celebrating” (”M.L. King Meets”). // ...Interviewed while in Ghana, King told radio listeners, “This event, the birth of this new nation, will give impetus to oppressed peoples all over the world. I think it will have worldwide implications and repercussions--not only for Asia and Africa, but also for America….It renews my conviction in the ultimate triumph of justice. And it seems to me that this is fit testimony to the fact that eventually the forces of justice triumph in the universe, and somehow the universe itself is on the side of freedom and justice. So that this gives new hope to me in the struggle for freedom” (Papers4:146).
(Visit www.GhanaHero.com for more information)
THEN THIS: "...4) Nkrumah developed the notion of socialist African union as the optimal zone for the African personality, genius...6) Nkrumah initiated the first African state-sponsored effort for African research
OUR COMMENT: Imagine, just this week the US Center for Disease Control agreed to assist African countries to better coordinate their responses against diseases, following the Ebola problem that wiped a deal of the productive capacity of so many West African countries. Even Angola, 1000s of mails away was not immune to the "smear" of the Ebola virus. Now African countries must beg, in coordinated fashion, Precisely what Nkrumah foresaw and attempted to find proactive solutions more than 2 generations ago!
FINALLY THIS: "...Untimely death and sabotage prevented both great leaders, Nkrumah and Lincoln, from accomplishing their noble goals..."
OUR COMMENT: On this one, we must depart with Francis Kwarteng in this narrow sense. Our take is, Nkrumah and Lincoln, both accomplishing their most important goals before their death. For Nkrumah, a United Ghana was achieved, against the strident opposition of the Danquah-Busia confederates, "right-wing bourgeois reactionaries", as they call themselves. Lincoln, on the other preserved the Union of the United State, with the surrender of Confederate General Lee to Union General Grant, at Appomattox, Northern Virginia, April 9, 1865. Lincoln was assassinated a mere 6 days later, on 15 April, in Washington DC by Confederate sympathizer and stage actor, John Wikes Booth. Lincoln did preserve the Union with the demand for full surrender.
To recap, "... Fact remains, in 1957, Dr. Nkrumah, against the wishes, prostrations, propaganda, and destructive acts of the Danquah-Busia Confederates led our forebears in the Gold Coast to freedom and independence by fighting for "Independence Now," just as President Lincoln led the American Union to victory over the Confederate South during 1861-1865. In other words, Dr. Nkrumah humanely did to the Danquah-Busia confederates in old-fashioned politics and democratic governance what Lincoln did to the Southern secessionist confederates in total, destructive Civil War.
Nkrumah was too humane.
Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore demanded surrenders from "right-wing bourgeois reactionaries" and similar Singapore detractors for over 2 generations, and won big for a united and vibrant Singapore!

Your second comments fleshes out what my statement below actually means:
"Untimely death and sabotage prevented both great leaders, Nkrumah and Lincoln, from accomplishing their noble goals."
I hope commentators read your second comments so as not to de-contextualize my statement. You know those are the kinds of "lapses" the Confederate-federalists are looking for.
Thanks!

If only we direct this energy and knowledge to resolving our plethora of problems, we'll come to lead Africa.

Second, they cannot rewrite history; we were fortunate to have gone to school; thanks to Nkrumah and we will defend ourselves and debunk any foolishness which comes from these Boko Haram unit of the Danquah Busia Dombo tradition.
Yes we can debate without insult but if they fire any insults we will reply with precision. They wished for war, now they have it.

Marcus, this whole back and forth "tuggy" came about when the Danquahists took it upon themselves to rewrite the history of Oman Ghana to the shock of the majority out there. The year is of course 2015, yet, these Danquah folks thought they could pull a fast one on the citizenry forgotten that our history achieved has been digitized like that of the rest of the world and no amount of their distortion could change what actually took place.
Now then, all are coming to terms as to why they tried heaven and earth to burn every supposedly Nkrumah's book or document when he was overthrown. In my able adult life, I have never come across a group so "patapalist" like the Danquah bunch and I am still waiting for the group that would come even close to their chaotic level.
Got quite a preaching about them from my late senior uncle - my mom's side, the honorable Kojo Botio. Couldn't understand what he was about until I was old enough to finally understand his political lectures of yesteryear.

Francis Kwarteng, thanks for your work. You kept too long for Ahoofe, PhD and Dr SAS to twist and turn our rich history to the younger generation. If I had money enough, I would buy airtime for you, from region to region, teaching our young ones and myself the rich history of our dear nation Ghana. If Ahoofe, PhD and co think that Busia deserves a higher place in our history, at least, they( Busia -Dankwa) came to power for eight years and couldn't honour him( Busia) by naming him after anything. They rather projected Nkrumah during the Ghana@ 50 celebrations. Please, Francis, I need some of the documents u used. Please send them through dominicntiakoh@yahoo.com. Thanks.

Dear Quinn,
I also forgot to mention that Quincy Jones wrote songs for Elvis Presley as well.
Africa-Americans like Dianna Ross vocally backed Elvis Presley; Elvis Presley did a number of renditions (African-American spirituals, or gospel songs, etc), and got most of his dance moves from African-Americas.
There is a good documentary and scholarly works on these. You can easily get them by googling. I can't seem to recall any titles for now.
Great expose Francis Keep it up
