Prof, I do agree with you that the land sale/acquisition problems in Ghana are not due to the lack of involvement of lawyers but rather they are part of the problems. The one of the main causes of the problem is the corruption/dishonesty in Ghana. Land owners and traditional leaders (family elders and chiefs) sell and resell one piece of land to different buyers as well as the lawyers making money out of such multiple sales.
I also share your concerns about foreign companies and individuals and their profit interests. There are stories of land in prime areas being sold to foreign investors who do not invest on the land as originally promised but only wait for the land to appreciate in value and sell them off for huge returns. Such activities are done with the connivance of lawyers who represent the interests of foreigners against the locals, especially when the locals complain about the land not being used for the promised investment that would have created jobs for the local youth. Any reform will fail if corruption and dishonesty are not addressed.

Even Asantehene's recent initiative about land title has not been as successful as it was envisaged.

Kwame Ahoofe goof big time and was totally wrong on his disagreement on Kyei Mensah-Bonsu call for land reforms.Ghana has been bedevil by greedy chiefs in their quest to dupe individuals who want land to built houses and such land sold to about ten different people or any other person need of money connive with crooks to sell land to unsuspected innocent individual that belong to someone or road to unsuspected individual to built a house and block to road and people do not have access to the homes.Land reform is the answer to our development.Chiefs may not have to right to sell their land without consulting the city. The city may get the opportunity to ackledge the type of development that to pursue whither it is commercial development or individual and have the perfect layout of roads, school, park, market, police, fire service, post office and what have you lands. This land reform may give individual right to go to the city to verify if the land that he or she is buying belongs to no body and not part of land specific purpose.Individual using lawyers prove as witness and endorse to such historic transaction and securing land title.Ahoofe get it wrong, should people not use the service of lawyers because they will charge fees?

Reforms as we all know is supposed to curtail long and difficult processes one has to go through just to register one plot of land.

Seeing is one thing, and being able to rationalize is another. Okoampa, your eyes can see, but your mind is too far gone to rationalize matters. Your article is about lawyers and landed-property transactions, yet you yap about dumsor. What does dumsor have to do with the GBA's proposal on property transactions? You're nothing butr an evil and demented one-way scholar who has found fertile grounds in Africa where many wrongly believe that a person with a PhD is a know-it-all person. What many do not know is that you Okoampa-Ahoofe has been all these years an Akufo-Addo sponsored false propaganda peddler of serial lies and messages of divisionism, hate and blind arrogance. You propose that "laws must be put in place regulating legal fees for lawyers who opt to represent both landed-property proprietors and prospective renters and buyers". Okoampa-Ahoofe, you made noise many times about how long you've been residing in the USA. Can you point to a single law in the USA that does what you've just dementedly proposed?
