  Buhari did not begin counting his blessings on somebody's victory; he started working hard right from the word go. He campaign was not on the weakness of his opponents. He spoke widely of what he can and will do. He was in the hinterlands and not limited himself to big functions in Abuja and Lagos and on BBC. Anyone wanting to have victory should stop the lottery and wishful thinking and roll their sleeves and get their hands dirty. Otherwise they should kiss victory, a good bye.

  Governance is not meant for academicians and scholars but rather for practitioners and activists. Jonathan is a professor of zoology but his government performed woefully. The same thing happened to Prof Atta Mills' government. The only achievement of Prof Mills is the payment of gargantuan judgment debts to undeserving non-entities. If a whole professor of law could be that incompetent then it tells you that governance is meant for academicians and school boys and girls. This is why Ghanaians must always vote massively for practitioners and activists. In the UK, majority of their politicians are chartered accountants whiles in the US they used to be professional soldiers and now they have practicing lawyers as leaders. Academicians are simply useless when it comes to governance. No wonder the reggae musician and philosopher Bob Marley described them as Crazy Bald Heads who must be chased out of the town.

  Dr Issah Imoro, I am not sure if you are in academia or which area is your PhD is in but I find your article very disappointing. The reasons for Buhari's victory are complex though there are similarities and differences with the current situation in Ghana. I believe you could have done a better job but no wonder some Ghanaian academics and professionals are so political that they fail to conduct any objective intellectual analysis and instead see any subject in the prism of their political lenses.

  Yes, this fellow is an impostor doing dirty work for NDC. We all know Kofi Ata does not support NPP but his arguments are more reasonable and he does not comment in this manner.

  Comparing apples and oranges can be good afterall, it is doing justice to the similarities and differences.
  To be hopeful is always noble too. A broader look at the victory of President Buhari paints a rather dire picture for African democracies into the future.
  Buhari pledged only one message, and that was taming Boko Haram a group of brutal youth from his North and of his religion.
  Of course the extent of insecurity in Nigeria is anti-liberty so if Buhari is the only strong man to deal with this canker let it be. He is a retired soldier and promised to face BH boot by boot, so he prevailed. The rest is history and lets all was and see. There is nothing fantastic here except that Nigerians need security even for the poorest and most vulnerable in villages who were slaughtered and let us not forget all the girls especially the Chibok ones that Goodluck failed to rescue. He has himself to blame.
  The only parallels to Ghana and opposition winning was in 2000 when the strong man Rawlings was leaving office anyway, then there was the scare of "dumping of corpses" and insecurity.
  The question here is should the creation of insecurity lead to a change of government in African countries the new paradigm since coups and war lords; Charles Taylor, Gbagbo, are no more to be tolerated or acceptable on the continent?
  Lets keep a close watch and allow the analysts to review the new state of politics in Africa.

  Buhari won the elections because his campaign strategy was very effective this time.He formed alliance with some of the Southern parties and was able to draw some strong figures from Johnathan's party to his side,especially the muslims.After 16 years in power,the PDP of Johnathan could not marshal his members together anymore,everything was in disarray.Buhari took advantage of it and that brought Johnathan down,it has nothing to do with age.Thank you.

And the insults John Mahama is getting from the NPP camp will be reciprocated and see how short Nana is...bald-headed short people are quick tempered and vindictive.   I thought this article would make a proper and impartial analysis of the political situations in both Nigeria and Ghana.
  
  But the analysis is very simplistic. It is only saying: Mahama and NDC are doing poorly. Therefore, Akufo-Addo and NPP will do well. Vote for him. Hollow analysis.
  
  There are no point to point comparisons - the areas where the two countries are similar and, more importantly, the areas where there are dissimilarities.
  
  The biggest problem in Ghana is the manner in which the country is trapped between NDC and NPP - two parties that the country can best do without. Nigerians may, indeed, push out a corrupt government, but there is no indication that the incoming government will be better, Nigerian politics being what it is. Many Ghanaians are fed up with NDC but they know that NPP is even more corrupt than the sitting government. Ghanaians are facing a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea. We should be discussing how to extricate ourselves from this predicament, not how we dig ourselves deeper into it.
  
  An assessment of Ghana's election in the light of the Nigerian one should show a more nuanced analysis than displayed here. Instead, the writer is telling us Akufo-Addo is incorruptible. And he wants us to believe that!
