    The type of critical lens we put on an essay depends on what we can discern of the writer - is author a Teacher/Professor, Student, High School?

    You should google the terms and find out for yourself.

    Both are terminal: JD (Juris Doctor) is a professional doctoral degree; JSD (Juridical Science Doctor/Doctor of Juridical Science) is a research doctorate.
