Our purchasing power is so weak almost everything that comes into the country, legally or illegally, is substandard. We get what we pay for. There are people whose circumstances send them to the garbage can for dinner. Does anyone think that's what they deserve or want? It's so shameful to discuss this openly but isn't it a shameful spectacle to find working class and middle class women buying used panties imported legally into the country? Are we that poor? Even people buy prescription drugs that are expired from the pharmacies .
The quality of Ghanaian life depends on an improved and robust economy. There has to be a pathway to economic revival, an uninterrupted robust economic plan for the next 20 years and beyond that will survive the changes in political administrations.
We cannot import our way into economic prosperity. The more we import the poorer we become and the poorer we become the more sub-standard goods and services we will receive. If we cannot come together as a nation and formulate a sustainable and original economic plan that will free us from perpetual poverty, misery and dependency then we need to study and adopt successful models wherever we find them.
There's no place in the world that doesn't have challenges but while some are able to find long lasting solutions others like us prefer to squander and waste national endowments and resources and throw our arms up in the air in despair. It's time to put the brakes on corruption and waste wherever they're found and think about how we can improve the quality of life for all Ghanaians, not for a privileged few who don't deserve what we pay them.
